Is Batman Confirmed To Appear In ‘Clayface’?

Since James Gunn started the DCU with Superman(2025), fans have been wondering when his version of Batman will make his big-screen debut. After all, it’s only an inevitability. Batman is one of, if not the most, popular heroes in DC Comics’ arsenal, and it’s been four years since the character appeared on the big screen in Matt Reeves’ The Batman(2022). Gunn has stated that Batman will get his own standalone film, The Brave and the Bold, but that film has no set release date, cast, or filming schedule that we know of.
Still, rumors have started to circulate that Batman may actually appear well before The Brave and the Bold.In fact, some speculate that we may actually see the new Batman this year in Clayface(2026). The evidence is compelling, made stronger by recent leaks that have begun to circulate on social media. So, let’s examine just how valid these claims are and whether or not Bruce Wayne will make his DCU debut in DC’s first body horror creature feature
Why Batman Could Make His Debut In ‘Clayface’
There was always a distinct possibility that Clayfacecould feature an appearance by the Caped Crusader. Clayface is one of Batman’s oldest foes, debuting in 1940, a little over a year after Batman’s debut. He’s a known figure in Batman’s rogues’ gallery, and if there’s a Batman-related character, it’s only a matter of time until Batman shows up
Take Joker(2019), for example. That film was marketed as being a Joker origin story, one that was intimately personal to his life and the decisions and abuse that led Arthur Fleck to become the Joker. Bruce’s father, Thomas Wayne, was a minor supporting character, but almost everything about the film was focused on Arthur’s descent into villainy. And yet, Bruce Wayne made an appearance, even though he had nothing to do with what was going on
The same could very well happen in Clayface. The film may seem entirely focused on Clayface’s tragic origins and the events that made him into the monster we know him as, but it’s possible that the DCU’s Batman could appear in the film. After all, reports have started to circulate that DC has officially cast Tom Brittney as Batman, and with only a few months before Clayface’srelease, they could very easily have him shoot a short scene to serve as a post-credits stinger to tease The Brave and the Bold.
How Likely Is It That Batman Will Appear In ‘Clayface’?
Knowing that DC may have cast Tom Brittney as Batman is one thing, but how likely is it that he could actually appear in Clayface? Truthfully, not very likely
The casting leaks alleging that Tom Brittney was cast began to circulate at the end of June 2026, and Clayfaceis currently slated to release on October 23rd. However, that release date is deceptive. Most films are typically finalized a few months beforehand, not only for screening purposes for critics and the odd film festival here and there, but so that studios have enough time to put the finishing touches on the film, like special effects and editing complex sequences. If Brittney were going to appear as Batman, it would add more work to an already incredibly tight deadline. It’s not impossible, but it would add undue stress to a film that doesn’t need it.
Because, in all likelihood, Clayfacewas filmed and written without any appearance in mind. Clayfacefinished filming in November of 2025, which means that the script was written well before that. If Batman were going to appear in the film, they would have locked down who was playing him well before then so that he could appear naturally. Fans may have mocked Jokerfor shoehorning Batman’s origins when it wasn’t necessary, but it was a part of the original script. Bruce Wayne was always meant to appear in Joker, and all signs point to Clayfacenever even considering putting Batman in the film. Again, there is a distinct possibility that Brittney’s Batman could appear in a simple post-credits scene, but that would be it, and even then, the odds are low.
Would Robert Pattinson’s Batman Appear Instead?
Even if the DCU’s new Batman seems unlikely to appear, what about Robert Pattinson’s take on the character? Matt Reeves is producing Clayface, and because production of The Batman: Part II(2027) has only recently begun, it means that Pattinson would likely have been available to make a cameo in the film
Surprisingly, seeing Robert Pattinson’s Batman in Clayfaceis even more unrealistic. Matt Reeves has said that he wants his planned Batman trilogy to be separate from the rest of the DCU, and it’s something that Gunn also agreed with. Reeves’ take on the Batman mythos is grittier and more grounded than the tone Clayfaceis going for. There’s sure to be plenty of disturbing elements to it, but there’s also an air of heightened reality that clashes with The Batman’sedge. It’s hard to imagine Pattinson’s broody and dour Batman, one who has so far only dealt with street-level crime, fighting against a man who can alter his shape like putty.
Doing so would also create a whole lot of confusion within the DCU. Clayfaceis meant to be canon with Gunn’s version of the DCU, so having Pattinson appear there would raise questions as to whether Reeves’ projects are or aren’t in continuity. Granted, it’s already a pretty confusing situation since soon, there’ll be two different Batmen running around on the big screen simultaneously. One will be Robert Pattinson, and the other will be the DCU version. Audiences are bound to be scratching their heads over that, but that’s a problem that DC will have to deal with later on down the road. As it stands, don’t expect Pattinson’s Batman to appear in Clayfaceeither. Just let Matt Hagen have his time in the sun without the Bat looming over him.
