Jason Sanjay is preparing for the theatrical release of his debut film Sigma as a director, but there’s one member of his family who has been intentionally kept away from the complete script, his father Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay.
Jason recently revealed that neither his father Vijay nor his granddad veteran filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar has gone through the entire script of Sigma.
The young filmmaker said the decision was intentional as he wants his family to watch the film as regular viewers when it eventually hits theaters.
Jason Only Shared the Film’s Outline
Jason told Galatta Plus that he had spoken to his family about the basic outline of the story. But he managed to keep the more delicate details of the screenplay under wraps.
Jason said his intention was to ensure his family members viewed the finished film without already knowing every big development or creative choice.
The director’s debut with Sigma is an action-adventure heist comedy with Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in lead roles. The film also stars Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan and Yog Japee.
Wants To Make Film His Statement Of Identity
Jason has also opened up about the scrutiny that comes with being Vijay’s son. He acknowledged that he thinks about how people see him, whether as a filmmaker in his own right or as the son of a major star.
Vijay is now the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the focus on Jason’s debut is no longer confined to the movies. Jason has previously said he wants the Sigma promotions to be about the film, not his father. Jason says his father’s duties as Chief Minister mean he’ll be waiting to see the film. Vijay isn’t expected to take part in the promotional campaign either.
“I hope that Sigma itself will let audiences form their opinion of me as a filmmaker,” Jason has said. He sees the film as a first step to making a self-identity in the industry.
The music of Sigma is composed by S Thaman, cinematography by Krishnan Vasant, editing by Praveen KL and VFX by Hariharasuthan. Produced by Subaskaran under Lyca Productions.
The film was originally slated for a July 31 release before being delayed. It is now scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, as a 2026 release.
For Jason Sanjay, the film is not just a directorial debut but also his first big move to carve out a niche for himself in Tamil cinema.
