Prepare to see some changes when “Chicago Fire” returns in the fall.
The NBC series has reportedly seen multiple exits ahead of its 15th season, set to premiere Oct. 7. The departures include at least one actor who has been with the procedural firestation drama since Season 1, and a fan-favorite star who said of his exit, “We gave it our all.”
“Chicago Fire,” which has been on air since 2012, has seen major shifts over the years, including the 2021 exit of series lead Jesse Spencer, who played Matt Casey, and Eamonn Walker, who played Chief Wallace Boden.
Here’s who else will soon make their departures, and who will return.
Dermot Mulroney, Joe Minoso exiting ‘Chicago Fire’
Dermot Mulroney will return early in Season 15 to conclude Chief Dom Pascal’s storyline before fully leaving the series after two seasons, Deadline reported on July 31, citing unnamedt his departure while appearing at a convention, as seen in fan video. The actor said the show’s writers “gave me incredibly challenging scenes” throughout his brief time on the show, which will end when he finishes filming on Tuesday, Aug. 4

“We gave it our all for two seasons,” Mulroney said. “They wrote an incredible storyline that put me as an actor on high challenge, so I loved every minute of it. Sad to see it go.”
Days before revealing Mulroney’s departure, Deadline and Variety reported longtime star Joe Miñoso, who has played Joe Cruz since the series’ pilot, would exit. The outlets reported the actor would also appear in early episodes of Season 15 to wrap his storyline. Season 14 ended on a cliffhanger after Cruz and several members of Firehouse 51 became trapped inside a burning storage facility. The finale also appeared to set up a hopeful new chapter for Cruz after he and wife Chloe (Kristen Gutoski) learn they are expecting twins.
‘Chicago Fire’ star Taylor Kinney staying put amid new hire
Series leads Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo are locked in to return to the series, Deadline reported back in May. Kinney has been with the series since its pilot as fire captain Kelly Severide, while Mayo joined in Season 4 as Lieutenant Stella Kidd.
Several stars whose fates are in limbo after the aforementioned storage facility fire include Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte), Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg), Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) and Lyla Novak (Jocelyn Hudon).
Meanwhile, “BMF” star Da’Vinchi is set to join the show as a series regular, Deadline announced July 23. The “All American” actor, born Abraham D. Juste, will play Marcus Burke, a funny but defiant firefighter candidate at Firehouse 51.
