Milwaukee fans have had their chance to strut their stuff over the first two games of the 2026 World Series. Now it’s St. Pete’s turn with the Tampa Bay Rays hosting their first game in the Fall Classic since 2008 with former Brewer great Freddy Peralta on the mound.
The Rays will need all the help they can get after falling behind 2-0 in the best-of-seven series. Tampa had a chance to steal Game 1, loading the bases in the ninth inning against lockdown closer Trevor Megill, but even though Liam Hicks’ double play was overturned and let one run score, Jonny DeLuca struck out with their second chance.
Tampa seemed determined to even up the series, jumping out to a 4-0 lead, capped by a two-run homer by Liam Hicks in the first inning. But the Brewers, who have been making comebacks their specialty all postseason, did so again Saturday night, scoring two in the first, and single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, respectively.
Now the stage set at the Trop in what could be its final time in the spotlight before the new stadium opens. The Rays are 4-1 at home this postseason but just 13-13 in their playoff history. They tied the Brewers for the best home record during the regular season at 55-26, though Milwaukee also posted the second-best road record this year at 48-33.
To turn the tables in Game 3, the Rays will turn to AL Championship Series MVP Freddy Peralta, who rose to prominence as two-time All-Star “Fastball Freddy” with the Brewers from 2018-2025. He signed a lucrative free-agent deal over the offseason but flamed out with the New York Mets, then rekindled that energy after a midseason trade to Tampa. He’s gone 2-0 in four games through these playoffs, giving up just two runs on 12 hits and seven walks with 12 strikeouts while also delivering a clutch two outs on his off day in Game 4 of the ALCS in Cleveland.
