We’re still missing these Nintendo Switch 2 Editions

Posted on November 8, 2026 by Ethan in Features, Switch, Switch 2

We’re going over a bunch of Switch games that have yet to receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.

Nintendo has remained fairly consistent with its Nintendo Switch 2 Editions this year. The lineup includes Super Mario Bros. Wonder in March, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition in June, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in July, Pikmin 4 in November, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in December. These are solid update packs for great games, but not a ton of variety if you’re not a huge RPG lover like me. So with that in mind, it’d be really nice to see some additional upgrade packs from Nintendo later this year, and here are a few that we still haven’t received yet.

    Most Pokemon games

Most Nintendo Switch 2 Editions add new content, but if any of the Pokemon games for Switch were ever updated for the console, it wouldn’t make much sense to follow the same path. But they could really use the frame rate boost, as they’re all still locked to 30 frames per second on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Handheld Mode Boost can make them look a lot better, at least, and the presence of that feature may be why Nintendo hasn’t released quite as many Switch 2 Editions recently. But Pokemon Legends: Arceus would especially play great at 60 frames per second – it’s a shame we’re probably never going to see that happen. It’s very safe to assume that Pokemon has permanently moved on from its older titles, even though they could all hugely benefit from performance boosts.

    Kirby Star Allies

Kirby Star Allies isn’t the greatest Kirby game out there – its levels are even easier than normal, which is a big part of why it’s often considered a weaker entry than Planet Robobot or Triple Deluxe. Another reason, though, is that it runs at 30 frames per second with frame drops – which is a shame, because visually it looks great!

But especially during certain boss fights, Kirby Star Allies can drop to near-slideshow levels of frames. It’s not as bad an issue on Nintendo Switch 2, of course, but this game really needs the 60 frames per second performance boost. You could even add Elfilin as a Dream Friend if you wanted to add a tiny bit of extra content as part of a Switch 2 update. Kirby’s Dream Buffet could technically use the extra frames too, but it didn’t formally make the list because the online mode is completely dead.

    The Fire Emblem series

Likewise, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem Engage also lack Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. Now that we have Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, however, it’s very possible that Nintendo doesn’t want to cannibalize sales of the new game by upgrading one of its older titles.

Both titles run at 30 frames per second with occasional drops here and there (especially Three Houses), though the drops are at least mostly gone when playing on Switch 2. And yes, frame rate doesn’t matter too much for games like Fire Emblem, but the upgrade option would still be nice for those who want to revisit or try these games for the first time.

    Luigi’s Mansion 3

Maybe this won’t age well, but a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Luigi’s Mansion 3 is kind of doubtful. Next Level Games, the studio behind the latest Luigi’s Mansion titles, has been pretty much dormant since Mario Strikers: Battle League in 2022. This likely means the company is working on Luigi’s Mansion 4. With that in mind, we’re probably going to see an announcement for that before we see any Nintendo Switch 2 Edition or upgrade for Luigi’s Mansion 3. That is a shame, because it’s one of the best-looking animated games on Nintendo Switch, and it could use a performance and resolution boost for sure.

    Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Despite being a fairly simple-looking game on the surface, one of Mario & Luigi: Brothership’s weaknesses is its performance, especially on the original Nintendo Switch. After a certain point in the story, the overworld permanently becomes laggy from then onward, which makes clearing last-minute goals and objectives even more of a hassle. Additionally, the game targets 30 frames per second, and would look fantastic with a performance boost all around. Maybe the dreaded mini-game where you hit the ball back and forth would be a little easier with 60 frames per second, too.

We mostly covered first and second-party Nintendo Switch games here, but there are plenty of others that could use performance upgrades on Switch 2. Which would you like to see most? Let us know in the comments down below.
