Before he was hired recently to take the helm of the first entry in the next “Star Wars” film trilogy, it turns out that filmmaker Jon Watts had already spent months working on a secret project for Lucasfilm.
Watts previously directed the first three Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” movies for Sony, and more recently he and Christopher Ford served as the creative team and showrunners on the “Star Wars” live-action <a href="https://comicvibe.com/visionquest-tv-series-guide/” title=”VisionQuest (TV Series) Guide”>series “Skeleton Crew”.
After that series was launched, it turns out the pair stayed at Lucasfilm developing something else, another “Star Wars” TV project that they devoted a good chunk of this year to before recently pivoting to the new film, according to a new report at Knight Edge Media.
The untitled project was reportedly being envisioned as an eight-episode Disney+ series, with a full writers’ room operating from January through August this year. The aim? To deliver a “Star Wars” series with a Western sensibility, much like “Skeleton Crew” was a mix of pirate adventures and the Amblin films.
Now though? Apparently all has gone quiet on the series, and it’s unclear whether Lucasfilm has shelved the project temporarily or quietly abandoned it altogether.
It is different from the upcoming trilogy of films that writer Simon Kinberg has been developing on his own for a while, but it only really seemed to gain momentum in the past few weeks.
