The story follows Spartacus, a Thracian who agrees to serve as an auxiliary in the Roman legions during a campaign against the Getae. When Claudius Glaber abandons the campaign to pursue Mithridates in Asia Minor, Spartacus and the other Thracians mutiny after feeling betrayed. The revolt ends with Spartacus being captured and condemned to become a gladiator, while his wife, Sura, is sent into slavery.
Taken to Batiatus’ gladiator school, Spartacus is prepared for combat. His strength is quickly demonstrated when he defeats four gladiators who are ordered to kill him. The victory wins over the crowd, and Senator Albinius changes his sentence from death to slavery. Batiatus then acquires Spartacus for his school and offers to help him find Sura if he succeeds in training.
Andy Whitfield originally portrayed Spartacus in Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena, while Liam McIntyre took over the role for Vengeance and War of the Damned.
