Jason Dohring has found a surprising new career.
The actor, who portrayed Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars, hasn’t appeared on screen since his stint on SEAL Team in 2021. Instead, he’s turned his focus to organic farming after becoming interested in gardening during the pandemic.
“I sort of got into gardening, and I was like, ‘Dude, this is so cool,'” he said on Don’t Do Nothing. “I didn’t even notice Covid for months ’cause I was in my backyard, just gardening. It wasn’t a huge thing. I got an interest in it.”
Dohring explained that he’s spent the last few years running farms. “I’m on my third farm now,” he said. “And we’re just making great food for people. “
He added, “The flavor of food can be so amazing. And there’s an art that you can create, too, with the way your farms are built and stuff.”
The actor explained that he told his team that he was going to focus on his farming for a period, but that he expects to eventually return to acting. “I told my agents, ‘I’m just gonna go farm for a minute,'” he said. “They said, ‘We’re still gonna send you stuff.’ I said, ‘Okay, fine.’ I’ll probably jump back into it at some point.”
Dohring also said that he briefly returned to acting in a small-scale project. “I got a call to do somebody’s little short film a while ago, and I went and did that as a favor to them,” he said. “I love art. And when I get around art, even talking about this, is exciting to me. I’m already like, ‘Oh, s—, I wanna go back to it.'”
The actor said that he worked on “14 acres up in West Virginia” where he personally planted around 3,500 trees. “We did apples, pears, peaches, cherries, nectarines — all the cold weather stuff that you can’t do here in Florida because those trees need a certain amount of cold weather to make fruit,” he said.
Dohring refuses to use chemical pesticides in his farming, explaining that he spent three months “covering all of our trees with a landscape fabric” instead of using chemicals. “We haven’t sprayed once on our farm,” he said. “And we’re doing it with great success.”
He said that his ultimate goal is to “grow food for 5,000 people” by “making our own market for people who care about really good quality food, like a private wine club, but for exceptional food.”

When asked about his ultimate endgame, Dohring responded, “I really, honestly, just want to help people, in whatever way, whether it’s farming, gardening, education, art — I just love it.”
