The New York Police Department arrested a “disorderly person” inside 30 Rockefeller Center, where the morning show is taped, just after 9 a.m. on July 16, a spokesperson for the department confirmed to E! News.

“Officers responded and placed an unidentified individual into custody,” the statement added. “There were no injuries reported. The investigation remains ongoing.”

Multiple outlets have reported that the detained individual allegedly asked for Al Roker, managing to evade security on site. The person then enterted “an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A” and approached Roker’s co-host Craig Melvin, a representative for Todayconfirmed to E! News.

“Today is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter,” the outlet added. “NBC and Today take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.”

E! News has also reached out to reps for Melvin but has not yet heard back.

Meanwhile, the Todaybroadcast itself continued uninterrupted, with guests includingThe Odyssey stars Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway, as well as the cast of the upcoming Netflix comedy The Hawk, including Will Ferrell, Luke Wilsonand Jimmy Tatro.

Elsewhere during the broadcast, Savannah Guthrieannounced she is taking a temporary hiatus from her spot on the news desk to film an upcoming NBC gameshow based on the Wordle puzzle game.

“I’m headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks,” Guthrie explained in a segment. “We’re going to shoot the whole season, and we’re super excited. Cannot wait for everyone to see it.”

Guthrie’s colleagues expressed support for her latest endeavor, with co-hostSheinelle Jonescalling it a “full circle” moment following the Today anchors’ obsession with the word puzzle game when it first launched in 2021.

Meanwhile, Melvin was sentimental about Guthrie stepping back for an extended break, adding, “We’re going to lose you for a minute, though.”

Since returning to the news desk in April following the kidnapping of her mother Nancy Guthrie—who has been missing since Feb. 1—the journalist has spoken out about the difficulty of balancing her ongoing grief with her public-facing career.

“Everything is strange right now,” Guthrie told The New York Timesin May. “It’s strange to get up and do theToday show every day, and it’s strange to say that I’m going to do a game show when your heart is broken.”

Nevertheless, she added, “I’m determined to put one foot in front of the other, and this is a joyous thing.”
