According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Prime Video is moving forward with a new Spider-Man series under its multi-dollar deal with Sony Pictures Television, aimed at bringing IP from Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters to the screen.
The upcoming series is based on the second Clone Saga storyline from Marvel comics, which follows two Spider-Man clones, Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker. Ben Reilly will surely ring a bell for seasoned fans of the comic book character, who appeared in Prime Video’s Spider-Noir, which was brutally cancelled after the first season. Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage played Ben Reilly in the series, an aging private investigator who takes on his titular superhero alter ego when an exceptional case comes his way.
Prime Video’s Spider-Noir cancellation left fans bitter, and the upcoming Spider-Man series is now adding insult to injury. While the platform seems determined to bring various iterations of Ben Reilly on-screen, they are brutally canceled after one season. Fans call out Prime Video over its Clone Saga Spider-Man series deal
While Prime Video was tight-lipped about the silent cancellation of Spider-Noirafter one season, reports suggested that it was eyeing another show based on Sony’s Marvel characters, which is now revealed to be the Clone Saga Spider-Man series. Spider-Noir‘s cancellation was especially shocking as Cage’s superhero was a hit among fans, with a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
According to Deadline, the series managed to secure the No. 2 spot on Nielsen’s US Top 10 for original series in its first week, with 851 million minutes viewed.
According to SlashFilms, the Clone Saga series will feature a different iteration of Ben Reilly. While fans are naturally excited about Spider-Man-themed series and spin-offs, they can’t help but wonder if Spider-Noir was canceled to make room for the upcoming show. Instagram user @micaiahbeltran commented on this possibility:
“Oh no….that’s why they canceled it….”
While a live-action Kaine Parker excited fans, they fear that the series would share a similar fate to that of Spider-Noir, getting axed after one season.

For the uninitiated, the second Clone Saga storyline marks the return of Ben Reilly to New York after living on the road for five years. The stable clone managed to develop a unique identity of his own, the Scarlet Spider, until he crossed paths with another flawed clone.
The storyline also introduced a highly unstable and tormented Spider-Man clone named Kaine Parker. The Clone Saga storyline also featured a controversial twist when Ben Reilly was revealed to be the real Spider-Man, with Peter Parker being a mere clone. After heavy backlash from fans, it was revealed that the test results were manipulated by the resurrected Norman Osborn, and Ben Reilly was indeed the clone.
Deadline also reported that the upcoming series will be written by creator Kelvin Yu and will likely feature significant changes from the comic book storyline.
