Netflix has officially confirmed that production is underway on Prince Edward Island and in Toronto for the romantic drama series This Summer Will Be Different. We also have our first look at Sophie Nélisse, Francesca Reale and Roby Attal, who lead the series. Additional cast members have also been revealed as part of the announcement. Here’s everything we learned in Netflix’s first big update for This Summer Will Be Different.

This Summer Will Be Different is a romantic drama series, led by the creators/showrunners and husband-and-wife duo Dane Clark (Suze, One More Time) and Linsey Stewart (Workin’ Moms, North of North). The series is an adaptation of Carley Fortune’s beloved novel of the same name.

Clark and Stewart are also executive producers on the project, joined by author Carley Fortune, Jennifer Kawaja (Wayward), Elise Cousineau (Cardinal), and Sam Levine (The Z Suite) for Sphere Media.

Confirmed as the series directors are Karen Maine (Nobody Wants This), Jasmin Mozaffari (Ginny & Georgia), and Fab Filippo (Save Me). However, which of the 10 episodes each will direct has yet to be confirmed.

Netflix has provided an official logline for the series:

“This Summer Will Be Different, based on the beloved novel by Carley Fortune, is a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.”

Filming is now underway on the series, which is taking place on serene Prince Edward Island and in Toronto. Production is expected to run until October 2026.

The lead roles, Lucy Ashby, Bridget Clark, and Felix Clark, will be played by the previously announced trio of Sophie Nélisse (Yellowjackets), Francesca Reale (Stranger Things), and Roby Attal (The Haunting of Bly Manor).
