The View has once again canceled its fan-favorite cohost costume segment for Halloween.
For the third consecutive year, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the talk show’s panel will not participate in the holiday tradition started decades ago by the show’s founding cohost, Barbara Walters.
The last time The View‘s panel dressed up in Halloween costumes came in 2023, when Sara Haines sported complex prosthetic makeup to portray Carl from Up!(see above), while Sunny Hostin painted portions of her body blue to appear as a Na’vi from James Cameron’s Avatar film series.

According to a schedule released by the ABC program, the show will again forego a cohost costume segment but will still move forward with its buzzy “Boo Are You Wearing?” segment that dresses children in Halloween costumes inspired by Hot Topics from throughout the year. The episode will also include a performance from Broadway’s The Rocky Horror Show.
Past installments of “Boo Are You Wearing?” saw children dress in controversial costumes, including a 2022 outfit themed to the moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars months prior.
The View’s cohost costume segment became a fan-favorite moment over the years, with numerous panelists participating in the traditional episode.
Walters herself wore some of the show’s most memorable costumes, including George Washington (2008) and Marilyn Monroe (2003), while Whoopi Goldberg has portrayed Marge from The Simpsons (2016), and Sherri Shepherd famously wore a beard to play Abraham Lincoln on a penny (also in 2008).
In 2024, producer Brian Teta announced that the show wouldn’t move forward with its usual Halloween costume episode as a result of its proximity to the presidential election.
“I’m going to announce something today that’s going to upset a portion of the audience, but I think it’s going to make you happy,” Teta told Joy Behar on the Behind the Table podcast. “This year, because it’s only a few days before the election and we need to be live, the hosts are not going to dress up for Halloween.”

Behar — who’s currently on hiatus fromThe View due to a serious shoulder injury — observed that while “we’ve done it every single year for 28 years,” it’s “always annoying for us” as cohosts to get into elaborate costumes on the air.
“They’re iconic, it’s great, I’ll try to bring it back next year,” Teta added. “The problem is, those shows are a huge undertaking; we have to do them on tape. Part of what our show has become and what it is right now, we can’t be on tape three days before the election.”
