An inquiry into Roblox, conducted by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, has been initiated, with allegations pointing to the platform’s prioritization of revenue over the safety of its young users.
Senators Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin addressed a letter to Roblox CEO David Baszucki, highlighting concerns about the reported criminal activities on the platform. In this correspondence, they emphasized the need for congressional oversight.
The senators questioned Roblox’s claims of being a secure digital space for children, noting that public records contradict these assurances. In a statement to PC Gamer, Matt Kaufman, Roblox’s chief safety officer, affirmed the platform’s commitment to safety and expressed eagerness to demonstrate their protective measures.
Roblox is expected to provide extensive documentation about incidents involving child safety issues, including abuse and exploitation reports, with a submission deadline set for August 31, 2026. This request encompasses nearly 30 different document types, focusing on incidents from 2023 to 2025.
The investigation demands data on several aspects: the number of exploitation and abuse reports for users under 18; details on the company’s response strategies; and statistics on accounts flagged for inappropriate behavior during the stated period.

“Roblox has been misused for trading harmful content and coercing minors into inappropriate actions,” the officials remarked, adding that this misuse compels Congress to act.
Several states, including Louisiana and Los Angeles County, have initiated legal action against Roblox over such safety concerns. The Australian authorities have also addressed these issues, expressing significant worries from local parents.
Responding to growing safety concerns, Roblox has rolled out several initiatives, including restrictions on direct messaging for users under 13, global age verification checks, a system for flagging sensitive content, and stricter moderation efforts.
