There’s no denying Taylor Swift’s influence on pop culture, and her impact goes far beyond just her music. From New Girl to Brooklyn Nine-Nine to The Good Place, plenty of TV shows have found clever ways to reference the global superstar. Now, Ted Lasso is joining the list.
During the season four premiere of the Apple TV series, Swifties got a fun little surprise when Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) had a Taylor Swift-inspired moment while visiting a Kansas City boutique with Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) and Leslie Higgins (Jeremy Swift).
The boutique owner explains that her business got a major boost after Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, when one of Swift’s backup singers purchased an outfit and shared it on Instagram.
“A couple summers ago when Taylor Swift was performing in town,” the owner says, “one of her backup singers—a wingless angel of color—she floated in, bought an outfit, posted it on her Insta! We’ve been poppin’ and hoppin’, and guys have been shoppin’ ever since. Women helping women, am I right?”
Inspired by the women-supporting-women moment, Rebecca ends up buying a pantsuit and embraces the message behind it.
The Ted Lasso season four premiere arrived on August 5 after a long wait from fans. The latest season took more than three years to come together, following the release of season three on March 15.
Ted Lasso season four picks up about three years after Ted left England and finds him back in Kansas, where he’s working at a local grocery store while spending time with his son, Henry. That is, until Rebecca and Keeley travel across the pond to convince him to return and coach AFC Richmond’s new second-division women’s team.
Ted Lasso is streaming now on Apple TV, with new episodes dropping weekly on Wednesdays.
