Marvel has launched The Punisher: Showdowns, a series of one-shots written by Tom Waltz that revisits the secret history of Frank Castle and his crossings with key figures of the Marvel universe. The first issue, with art by Greg Land, pits him against Black Widow, and the following ones will add Winter Soldier and Wolverine. A direct-commission <a href="https://comicvibe.com/call-of-duty-promises-a-return-to-form/” title=”Call of Duty promises a return to form”>format for the sector.
A production model with different artists on each issue 🎨
The structure of the series divides the work among different illustrators and colorists in each installment, something that facilitates the entry of professionals into mainstream comics and requires coordination of style and continuity between issues. The focus is on action narrative and on respect for the character’s continuity, with a script that connects each confrontation with Castle’s secret history. For the artist, it means adapting to a tight delivery schedule and to a staging of hand-to-hand combat.
Frank Castle is also looking for work by installments 💼
If anyone thought the Punisher only deals out justice, now he also deals out assignments: one issue for each artist, like someone holding office hours. Black Widow opens the round, then Winter Soldier and then Wolverine, who will surely arrive on time for his appointment. While the writers square away continuity, the artists sharpen their pencils and the colorists choose a palette. The result: a talent pool with a license to adapt to screen when the time comes.
