Oct. 29 (UPI) — Keri Russell’s series The Diplomat will return for a fifth season.
Netflix announced the show’s Season 5 renewal Thursday following the release of Season 4 earlier this month.
The Diplomat is a political thriller series created by former West Wing, Grey’s Anatomy and Homeland writer and producer Debora Cahn.
Russell stars as Kate Wyler, a U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom who must navigate political intrigue while also dealing with her struggling marriage to her husband, fellow diplomat-turned-U.S. Vice President Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
Other cast members include former West Wing co-stars Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford as U.S. President Grace Penn and first gentleman Todd Penn, respectively.

Season 4, released Oct. 15, focused on the Wyler and Penns’ respective marriage troubles and ended with Hal supporting Kate over Grace.
“It is very important in terms of what we’re looking at, [to consider] what you can do as a group that you can’t do as an individual, or what will make a difference as a group that won’t make a difference as an individual,” Cahn told Netflix’s Tudum. “Moral contagion works in both directions.”
The Diplomat originally premiered on Netflix in 2023.
