Texas (KBTX) – Looking to tap into your spooky side without waiting in line at a traditional seasonal attraction? A local entertainment spot is offering a high-tech alternative designed to deliver scares all year long
The Break Room — best known as a spot where visitors suit up, grab a bat, and smash away stress — is expanding its lineup beyond breaking glass and splattering paint. Owner Garland Crabb has introduced immersive virtual reality rooms to give guests a completely new way to blow off steam.
Crabb first added a VR escape room last year and recently rolled out another 30 virtual games. The expanded catalog ranges from family-friendly adventures to intense, jump-scare horror simulations and scary escape rooms.
“It’s just something different,” Crabb said of the expansion. “People come out and they have more options to choose than just breaking.”
Instead of walking through physical hallways filled with masked actors, guests slip on a VR headset and are instantly transported into interactive 360-degree nightmare worlds.
Current horror-themed games include:
- Hospital of Horror: A 15-minute quick-hit scare ($15)
- Insanity: The Haunting: A 30-minute jump-scare haunted house ($35)
- Manor of Escape & Mansion of Death: 45-minute horror-themed VR escape rooms ($35)
Because the experiences are completely digital, Crabb says the scares aren’t tied to October — guests can drop in to test their nerves, shoot virtual zombies, or celebrate special occasions any month of the year.
For first-timers, Crabb advises caution for guests with epilepsy or sensitivities to flashing lights due to the headset’s intense visual effects.
