The Failure at God School, the supernatural manga written by The Apothecary Diaries author Natsu Hyūga, is officially being adapted into a TV anime. The announcement was made on September 17, with a teaser visual revealed alongside it. No release date or animation studio has been announced yet.
The story follows Nagi, a girl who believes she has no supernatural abilities. Her twin brother Takeru can communicate through telepathy and use telekinetic powers, and Nagi has developed a technique to block his mental intrusions. After using it during an attack while trying to rescue a missing child, she accidentally proves that she has powers herself. Nagi is then sent to a school that trains people who can eventually become gods serving at shrines across Japan.

Hyūga writes the original manga while Modomu Akagawara provides the artwork. The Failure at God School began in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine in August 2021 and had reached 15 collected volumes by September 2026. A light novel adaptation also began publication in January 2022 under Kodansha’s Seikaisha Fictions imprint.
The series is set in contemporary Japan, where people with supernatural abilities known as himiko can receive state certification and serve as gods at shrines. Nagi’s grandmother once held that role, but after her death, the local shrine has been left without a replacement. Her reluctant entry into god training begins after she discovers that she has abilities of her own.
