Dell is offering a steep discount on its most powerful desktop computer. The Alienware Area-51 gaming PC equipped with a GeForce RTX 5090 GPU has dropped to $4,779.99 shipped after a $1,550 instant discount. This is one of the only RTX 5090 equipped prebuilt desktop computers that you can get under $5,000 and a far better deal than buying an RTX 5090 GPU by itself, which currently goes for about the same price as this entire PC.
Alienware Area-51 RTX 5090 Gaming PC for $4,780
The Alienware Area-51 is Dell’s flagship gaming PC. The product photos don’t give it due justice; this is a bigchassis that towers over the Aurora R16 model with superior build quality and a redesigned cooling system with even greater airflow.
This particular config is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K CPU, GeForce RTX 5090 32GB GPU, 32GB of DDR5-7200MHz RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Additional system details include a 360mm all-in-one liquid cooling system for the CPU and a massive 1,500W 80Plus Platinum power supply that allows plenty of headroom for future upgrades.
32GB of DDR5-7200MHz RAM and 1TB SSD are $750+ upgrades
A quick check on Amazon and Newegg reveals that 32GB of DDR5-7200MHz RAM currently sells for at least $600. Thanks to the overwhelming success of the AI market, RAM pricing is not expected to get any better in the near future. Even heavy hitters like Valve have stated that “it has no bargaining power when it comes to buying memory from the limited number of companies that produce it at scale and control the bulk of the market.”
The RTX 5090 is the most powerful graphics card ever and costs $4,000+ by itself
If you thought GPUs were going down in price, guess again. Although some of the mid-range cards (particularly on the AMD side) have indeed seen recent discounts, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU is actually even more expensive that it was at the beginning of the year. The cost to acquire one of these golden eggs standalone is now north of $4,500 if you buy a new one. You can find a used one off eBay for about $4,000, but that comes with a fair amount of risk.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 is still far and away the most powerful consumer GPU on the market. Although with this generation Nvidia has prioritized software updates, AI features, and DLSS 4 technology to improve gameplay performance, the 5090 still boasts an impressive 25%-30% uplift over the RTX 4090 in hardware-based raster performance. If you want the absolute best performance for your gaming PC, there is literally no other option from any other brand.
