Andy Garcia praises Taylor Sheridan as Hollywood's latest 'maverick'

Andy Garcia praises Taylor Sheridan as Hollywood’s latest ‘maverick’

“Landman” star Andy Garcia touted show creator Taylor Sheridan’s distinctive talent for dialogue, character development and a unique worldview in an interview with Fox News Digital.

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Taylor Sheridan is branching out from his signature Western shows to take on his first movie in five years.

Last year, Sheridan signed a massive deal with NBCUniversal, which means he’s leaving Paramount behind after his current deal expires in 2028. The streaming service helped launch massive hits for Sheridan, including “Yellowstone,” and its prequels, “1883” and “1923.” Paramount is also home to “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Tulsa King,” “Landman,” “Lioness,” and “The Madison.”

This move also will allow Sheridan to step away from television writing and dive back into movies. Sheridan wrote “Sicario” and the Academy-Award-nominated “Hell or High Water.” He has not had a movie release since 2021, when he wrote the Angelina Jolie-led “Those Who Wish Me Dead” and co-wrote “Without Remorse.”

TV Insider reported that Sheridan will have two new movies on the way, both based on concepts by “The Brutalist” producer Andrew Lauren, who has worked with Sheridan in the past.

Lauren shared a statement with TV Insider about his excitement for the upcoming collaboration.

Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner on the red carpet

Taylor Sheridan is the mastermind behind the Kevin Costner-led “Yellowstone.”

“These two projects have been years in the making — ideas I believed in deeply, never anticipating that advances in science and shifts in the political landscape would accelerate their path to realization,” Lauren said. “I worked on developing them with Taylor long before his emergence as one of the industry’s most distinctive, visionary voices. It’s incredibly rewarding to see his continued passion and commitment to bringing these stories to the screen.”

The movies, titled “Visalia” and “Capture the Flag,” will attract very different audiences.

“Visalia” is described as a political drama that will follow “a determined young Cuban woman who escapes the only life she’s ever known, braving treacherous waters and relentless danger in pursuit of freedom in America. But when a historic political shift pulls her back to Cuba, she must confront the uncertain promises of a homeland transformed — and the price she’s paid to survive it,”

“Capture the Flag” will give Sheridan the chance to dive into space. The movie will follow “a NASA engineer into a desperate race to build the first reusable spacecraft capable of traveling to the moon and back, testing his limits, loyalties, and morals when a tech tycoon offers him the chance to make history — if he’s willing to pay for it,” per TV Insider.

Release dates and further details have not yet been shared.
