T.O.P, formerly of the group Big Bang, finally bowed his head. He promised to improve after a 20-year fandom’s ‘break’ declaration and, three weeks later, released a written apology and offered an explanation. Having lost longtime fans and after a long silence, he said he would convey his sincerity in 11 lines.
On the 1st, T.O.P directly delivered his positione ‘Choi Seung-hyun.com.’
First, T.O.P opened by saying, I want to convey my sincerity to the operators of Choi Seung-hyun.com who have been with me for the long 20 years, and said, Even at moments when even I found it hard to believe myself, you trusted me as one person and always gave me warm hearts and precious support that gave me the strength to make music again. I will never forget the time and effort you poured into guarding that place and the precious sincerity of the fans who gathered their hearts together. Thanks to the great heart you sent me, I was able to come this far.
He went on to explain the reason he belatedly posted the apology, saying, I thought I had to be careful even with a single word in various situations, so it took time to convey my feelings. It is late, but I want to deliver my sincerity directly.
He added, The operators of Choi Seung-hyun.com sent me devoted love for longer than anyone and were a great support. I hope their time and effort and the sincerity contained therein are not obscured by misunderstandings and speculation and remain in their full meaning. I hope the precious years we spent together do not remain as misunderstandings or become wounds to each other.
T.O.P apologized, saying, I know very well that the interest and love you send are never something to be taken for granted, so I will carry gratitude in my heart for the rest of my life, and I sincerely apologize to the operators and fans of Choi Seung-hyun.com who were hurt and misunderstood because of me. I fervently hope my sincerity reaches you. It was about three weeks after the 20-year fandom declared its break that T.O.P spoke directly.
Earlier, the fan site Choi Seung-hyun.com, which had supported T.O.P for 20 years, announced on its official channel on the 10th of last month, We have decided to end operations because we can no longer tolerate T.O.P and Topspot Pictures’ (TOPSPOTPICTURES) turning a blind eye to reality, avoidance of responsibility, and attitude of taking fans’ dedication for granted. However, the site noted that T.O.P’s private life, including his acknowledged relationship with Nana, formerly of the group After School, was not the reason for closing the fan site.
Choi Seung-hyun.com said, Contrary to the phrase ‘an album for the fans,’ the stages and communication that fans most wanted and waited for were insufficient. Album promotion and promotion, as well as the practical work involved in fan communication and support, have been left to the voluntary efforts of a personal fan site, criticizing the agency’s lack of communication and shifting of work. They also released the matters and exchanged messages that Choi Seung-hyun.com had handled while communicating with the agency.
When the 20-year fandom declared its withdrawal, T.O.P’s agency Topspot Pictures also moved. The agency said, We are taking the opinions fans recently conveyed to us seriously, and added, We will hear the opinions you send more closely and actively reflect them in the artist’s activities and overall operations. We will also review the ways we communicate with fans and provide guidance once improvement measures are prepared.
In the end, both T.O.P and the agency only began damage control belatedly after fans had already lost trust and left.
