Suri Cruise, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally dropped her father’s last name and chosen a surname that honors her mother instead, according to a Page Six report.

Rather than adopting Holmes as her last name, Suri opted for Noelle, her mother’s middle name. While it’s unclear when she officially changed her last name, Page Six reported that she registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pa., under the name Suri Noelle during her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University in October 2024. She first made headlines in June 2024, when she graduated from New York City’s LaGuardia High School and was listed as Suri Noelle in the ceremony pamphlet.

The reported name change comes after years of estrangement from Cruise. Following her parents’ divorce in 2012, Suri moved from Los Angeles to New York City with Holmes, who was granted full custody, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Mission: Impossiblestar was ordered to pay $400,000 annually in child support, plus medical, dental, education and insurance expenses, until Suri turned 18, the outlet reported.

Before moving to Pittsburgh, Pa., Suri, who has often been described as the spitting image of her mother, was frequently spotted out and about in New York City.

“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests,” read a joint statement from Holmes and Cruise following their divorce in 2012. “We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”

Suri Cruise and Tom Cruise visit Charles River Basin on October 10, 2009 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Neither Cruise nor Holmes has publicly addressed Cruise’s reported estrangement from Suri. In December 2024, however, Holmes took to Instagram to deny a Daily Mail report claiming that Suri had inherited a trust fund from her father.

Holmes maintains a close relationship with her daughter. The Dawson’s Creekstar has publicly gushed about Suri and praised her for having “her own sense of style and her own expressions.” In 2024, Holmes shared a photo of the sweet bouquet Suri sent her for her 46th birthday, along with a heartfelt tribute. Suri has also collaborated creatively with her mother, providing vocals for two of her films: 2022’s Alone Togetherand 2023’s Rare Objects.

Suri isn’t the only celebrity child to distance herself from her famous father. On July 21, People reported that Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, had filed a petition to legally drop “Pitt” from her surname. Vivienne, 18, requested that her name be changed to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, according to court documents obtained by the outlet. A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Pitt and Jolie’s daughter has been going by Vivienne Jolie since at least May 2024, when she was credited by that name in the Playbill for Broadway’s The Outsiders. Vivienne served as a producer on the musical alongside her mother.

Vivienne joins her siblings, Zahara and Maddox, who are also in the process of legally dropping “Pitt” from their names. Zahara is seeking to change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie, and Maddox is requesting that his name be changed to Maddox Chivan Jolie. The siblings published legal notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal earlier this month confirming their intent to change their last names, as required by California law. Their hearings are scheduled for Sept. 28 and Sept. 14, respectively, according to court documents previously obtained by People.

Following her initial petition in May 2024, Shiloh Jolie, now 20, published a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times in June 2024, announcing her intent to legally remove Pitt from her surname. Her request to change her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie was legally approved and finalized in August 2024.
