While interacting with the audience at an event in Dehradun, the minister stated that his self-respect meant more than anything.
Following his latest controversy with singer Daler Mehndi, Uttarakhand minister Subodh Uniyal has now stated that he refuses to apologise to him, even if that means stepping down from his position.
While interacting with the audience at an event in Dehradun, the minister stated that his self-respect meant more than anything.
When asked how he would respond if the party’s senior leadership asked him to apologise to the singer, the minister reportedly said he would choose to step down instead.
The controversy began a few weeks ago when Uniyal accused Daler Mehndi of performing under the influence of alcohol at a religious musical event in Uttarakhand.
The minister allegedly questioned the singer’s condition, claiming that he had arrived at the venue after consuming alcohol. He also alleged that Daler Mehndi had not performed live and had relied on lip-syncing. A video of the incident subsequently went viral on social media, drawing criticism.
Daler Mehndi’s brother, Mika Singh, reacted strongly to the allegations and demanded an apology from the minister.
Defending his brother, Mika said that Daler Mehndi had recently undergone major surgery, which had affected his ability to sing for extended periods. He also clarified that the singer had attended the event to honour an existing professional commitment.
Mika further maintained that Daler Mehndi does not consume alcohol and objected to the allegations made against him.
The minister’s latest statement comes even as Mika Singh’s team recently claimed that Uniyal had contacted Daler Mehndi over the phone and apologised for the incident.’
However, Subodh’s latest remarks clarify that he did not apologize.
