A new mod has now made it possible to play “Stardew Valley” in full 3D, in virtual reality, or to simply stick with the original 2D presentation, all from within the same installation.

“Stardew Valley” has been a staple of the indie gaming scene since ConcernedApe first released it back in 2016, and a decade later it is still getting new experiences courtesy of its passionate modding community.

‘Stardew Valley’ Mod Lets You Play It in 3D, VR, Classic 2D

The mod is called “Stardew 3DVR” and was created by modder GingasVR, whoshared the project on X alongside footage showing how dramatically different the game looks and feels in its new form.

The mod converts “Stardew Valley’s” existing 2D sprites into 3D models using a technique called voxel conversion, which retains the overall look and feel of the original art while placing everything into a three-dimensional space.

Players can freely toggle between the new 3D perspective and the original 2D view at any point during play, meaning there is no need to commit to one style over the other. The mod also supports VR headsets for those who want to step even further into the world of the game, and it includes non-VR motion controls as an additional option.

Cutscenes can be switched between first-person, third-person, and standard 2D viewing modes depending on player preference.

One of the more practical aspects of the mod is its broad compatibility. GingasVR confirmed that Stardew 3DVR works with nearly every existing mod for “Stardew Valley,” applying the same voxel conversion process to assets created by third-party developers as it does to the base game’s content. Multiplayer is also supported, provided all players in the session have the mod installed.

‘Stardew Valley’ Mod in 3D, VR Looks Like ‘Minecraft’

The visual result of the mod draws immediate comparisons to “Minecraft,” which makes sense given how the voxel conversion process works.

The blocky, cube-based geometry that voxelization produces gives Pelican Town a distinct look that sits somewhere between “Stardew Valley’s” original pixel art and the low-poly sandbox aesthetic of “Minecraft.”

That comparison has resonated with players online, many of whom noted that the mod essentially gives “Stardew Valley” a completely different genre feel when viewed in VR or full 3D. Farming, mining, fishing, and socializing with villagers all take on a new dimension in the literal sense, giving longtime players a genuinely fresh way to experience content they have seen many times before.

Where to Download, How to Install This Mod

“Stardew 3DVR” is available to download for free on Nexus Mods. Players can find it by searching for the mod directly on the “Stardew Valley” section of the site, where it is listed under the name Stardew 3DVR.

GingasVR described the mod as lightweight and straightforward to both install and uninstall, which lowers the barrier for players who want to try it without worrying about it conflicting with their existing setup.

With ConcernedApe still actively developing “Stardew Valley” and working on the upcoming 1.7 update, which has already confirmed two new marriage candidates in Clint and Sandy, the modding community shows no signs of slowing down either.

The developer has also expressed interest in his next project, tentatively known as “Haunted Chocolatier,” though no details have been shared publicly.)(#%p2e
