Disney has revealed Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, the first official crossover between the iconic franchises Fans can start getting their hands on the five-part comic book series from January 2027, which will bring together Star Wars characters and Marvel superheroes together on the page

Entertainment Weekly revealed the upcoming crossover series, revealing that alongside Smith writing it, David Marquez will illustrate the crossover. The event, as per trade, won’t be an Elseworlds story. Star Wars heroes like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader will meet the Marvel heroes of Earth-616. The crossover arrives on the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, which launched in 1977 with Episode 4: A New Hope.

What do we see in the first-look images for the Star Wars and Marvel crossover?

As part of the announcement, three images have been revealed teasing the crossover. The first shows Luke Skywalker and Captain America front and center. Other heroes, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk, and some X-wing pilots, are behind them. The second image shows Darth Vader, Doctor Doom, Thanos, Grand Moff Tarkin, Greedo, and some Stormtroopers standing together. The third shows Han Solo, Wolverine, Chewbacca, Groot, Professor X, Star-Lord, and She-Hulk in the same frame.

It’s clear from the images that the crossover isn’t holding anything back when it comes to featuring heavy hitters from both franchises. Some additional images also show other characters like Leia, Black Widow, Black Panther, and The Thing. One particular image shows Deadpool standing beside Obi-Wan Kenobi, teasing an adventure fans won’t want to miss.

According to a logline read by EW, the story will kick off with the Avengers seeing the events of A New Hope unfold on Earth after a “reality-shattering spell.” The outlet confirmed that Star Wars characters will battle both heroes and villains from Marvel comics.

“Back in the early ‘80s, I had a subscription to Marvel’s Star Wars comics. And as fun as it was to follow the continuing adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han, I always wished that Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could cross over into their cinematic saga,” said Smith. “So when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand! I’m ecstatic to be writing Hope Assembles for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars! Many thanks to Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm for trusting me to fly the Falcon and the Quinjet!”

Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles will launch in January 2027 and follow with monthly issues, culminating in May 2027.
