Fairy wings, tartan, cultural traditions and a little bit of magic will come together in Sault Ste. Marie this fall for an evening unlike your typical fundraiser.
The Sacred Hearth Cultural Fantasy Ball takes place Oct. 3, inviting guests to dress up, step into a fantasy-inspired world and celebrate the different cultures, stories and traditions that help shape the community.
Hosted by Sacred Hearth Community Wellness Inc., the event will blend elements of fantasy with cultural expression, creating an evening designed around connection, creativity and play.
Guests can expect cultural dance performances and vendors alongside fire dancers, a stilt walker, mermaid and juggler, with DJ Sam Wise Gambchi providing the music for the evening.
The night will also include baskets up for bid, flowers from Tamara’s Trends to be won and a red carpet hosted bySooToday SPACES.
Elders from the Healing Lodge will attend as guests of honour, while community members and sponsors who have supported Sacred Hearth’s work will also be recognized throughout the evening.
Behind all the costumes, entertainment and celebration is a larger goal.
Funds raised through the Cultural Fantasy Ball will help Sacred Hearth Community Wellness work toward becoming a registered non-profit, including covering the legal costs associated with the process.
Reaching that milestone would open the door to additional grant opportunities and help the organization expand the free programming it offers in the community.
Sacred Hearth’s work includes women’s wellness gatherings, grief support, community closets and other healing and wellness initiatives.
Funds also help cover the venues and supplies needed to keep those programs accessible.
For founder River Noble, creating opportunities for people to connect through experiences like the Cultural Fantasy Ball is an important part of that work.
“The brain learns best through play and when we create spaces like this we also encourage new bonds and build trust that enables everyone to uplift one another,” shared Noble.
“We are creating safe spaces that show how effective it is and how much of a difference it can make to have shared values and use fun and magic to bring our biggest goals to life and uplift our community.” Noble continued.
The Sacred Hearth Cultural Fantasy Ball takes place Saturday, Oct. 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Marconi Cultural Event Centre, 450 Albert St. W. in Sault Ste. Marie.
Tickets are $120 and are available until Sept. 27.
