Watch: Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Official Trailer).

    Brand New Day Title Origins

The film’s title, Brand New Day, is taken from one of Spider-Man’s most divisive comic book storylines, where Peter Parker’s identity is erased from the world’s memory. Yes, this is similar to the script in No Way Home.

Sony Still Owns the Film Rights

Sony were the first studio to buy the film rights to Spider-Man, while Marvel can only watch from the sidelines. In order to keep the film rights, Sony need to consistently make new web-slinger movies.

“Home” Is No Longer a Thing

Every previous MCU Spider-Man film contains the word Home, making Brand New Day the first movie to break the pattern.

    The Youngest Spider-Man

Tom Holland was cast as Spider-Man at just 19 years old, making him the youngest person to play the wall-crawling superhero. Jon Bernthal suggested he play the comic book caper, and even filmed his audition with him.

    Casting Discovery

Marvel announced that he had been chosen to play Spidey on Instagram, and Holland only found out when he checked his account.

    Spoiler Mastermind

Tom Holland is notorious for his big mouth. He has spilled the tea on several occasions, prompting Marvel to stop giving him complete scripts.

    The Suit Means Something

Peter Parker’s homemade suit at the end of No Way Home is a nod to Steve Ditko’s original comic book design from 1962.

    Captain America: Civil War

Marvel used code names throughout Captain America: Civil War to keep Spider-Man’s identity a secret.

    Two-Decade Gamble

Spider-Man has been played by three actors within the space of two decades.

    Sony Hostage

Marvel Studios hoped to introduce the red-and-blue hero much earlier, but Sony needed to be convinced.

    Comic Book Income

The MCU Spider-Man series has become the highest-grossing live-action Spider-Man film series to date.

    The Parkour Prince

Tom Holland performed many of his own stunts, including parkour sequences and backflips.

The Spider-Man/Venom saga is a fan favourite storyline.

    Long Swing Home

The iconic swing at the end of No Way Home was designed to mimic the classic comic book Spider-Man pose.

    Comic Book Wars

The Brand New Day storyline is one of Spider-Man’s most divisive comic book arcs because it reset the character’s continuity, leaving many fans disgruntled with the new direction.

    Sales: No Surprise There

Spider-Man remains Marvel’s biggest-selling superhero and outperforms all of Marvel’s other characters.

    The Reboot

After The Amazing Spider-Man underperformed at the box office, Sony were set to reboot the franchise again. This led to its partnership with Marvel.

    Spidey Gets Cancelled

Spider-Man first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15, a comic that was scheduled to be cancelled, but fans took such a strong liking to him that he got his own title.

    Stan Lee’s Concern

Stan Lee was worried Spider-Man would flop, as audiences weren’t receptive to teenage superheroes at the time.

    The iconic 1960s Spider-Man theme remains a go-to reference for web-heads everywhere.

    Super Readership

Spider-Man’s debut in Amazing Fantasy #15 became an unexpected hit, prompting Marvel to give him his own series the following year.

    Arachnophobia

Editors at Marvel almost rejected Spider-Man because they felt the public’s deep fear of arachnids would jeopardise sales.

    The Inner Struggle

In the comics, Peter Parker’s personal problems were just as important as his battles with villains, marking a fresh turn for superhero stories.

    The Fantastic Four

Spider-Man once tried to join the Fantastic Four, but was turned down.

    Theme Tune

The iconic theme tune came from the 1960s animated television series, remaining one of the franchise’s most distinctive elements.

    The 1990s Animated Series

The 1990s animated series was and still is one of Marvel’s most celebrated and successful adaptations. So much so that fans often use it as the benchmark for accuracy.
