Throughout the years, we’ve seen countless comic-book team-ups, but only a few are as astonishing as Deadpool and Spider-Man. The heroes in red even had a 50-issue series that began back in 2016, where they embarked on a metaphorical (and literal) road trip. Furthermore, this iconic duo stole the spotlight on the small screen courtesy of the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, and the Merc with a Mouth was the boss in a level of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
Peter Parker’s great sense of responsibility mixed with Wade Wilson’s need for violence makes for an unmissable combo. Besides, when the two start bouncing off each other’s quips, there’s simply no stopping them. Unfortunately, the dynamic duo hasn’t gotten the chance to shine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. However, both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars present the perfect opportunity to finally bring them together. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a small probability that the two will take over the video game world.
Yuri Lowenthal, the voice actor of Peter Parker in Marvel’s Spider-Man, wants Deadpool to appear in a future game
During an interview with The Movie Dweeb, Yuri Lowenthal—the voice actor behind Peter Parker in Insomniac’s Spider-Man saga—revealed that he has tried to convince creative director Brian Horton to include Deadpool in the wall-crawler’s upcoming installment.
While Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 hasn’t been officially confirmed by PlayStation or Insomniac Games, we know that it is definitely coming. Lowenthal revealed that Peter Parker will come out of retirement after the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to save the day once more. Furthermore, Miles Morales’ voice actor, Nadji Jeter, stated that his character won’t wear that infamous Adidas suit moving forward. The arachnid adventure is bound to continue, and the only question remaining is what will happen next.
Marvel’s Wolverine—also developed by Insomniac Games—takes place in the same world as Marvel’s Spider-Man. Since mutants are slowly but surely starting to make their presence felt in this universe, it isn’t far-fetched to assume that a crossover between the two franchises could eventually be in the cards. If that ever comes to be, then Deadpool could join the adventure as well.
Granted, Wade Wilson has yet to be introduced in Insomniac’s video game saga. However, his debut could be one of the main plot points of a hypothetical crossover project. The Merc with a Mouth could start on the wrong side of history before teaming up with Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Logan, and Jean Grey. From that point onwards, they could all join forces to fight a common threat.
One of the biggest perks of any Marvel project is the endless crossover possibilities. The MCU has found a lot of success on the big screen with its ambitious team-up movies, while huge comic book events involving dozens of heroes tend to be a major success. Unfortunately, this formula has yet to be replicated in all of its glory in the video game world. Granted, Square Enix released an Avengers game, but not only did it lack prior setup, but it was also met with mixed-to-negative reactions.
It seems Insomniac is trying to follow the same formula that proved to be successful for the MCU: introduce heroes in standalone projects (and even give some of them sequels) before bringing them together in an explosive tale. Unfortunately, it’s a bit too early to tell what the narrative of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 will look like, or whether there will, indeed, be a crossover game with more mutants. But with a bit of luck, it won’t be long before we find out what other projects Insomniac is working on (one of which is rumored to be a Marvel’s Venomspin-off title).
