    These ladies have major chemistry

Four powerhouse women, one epic new comedy. Spa Weekend hits theaters this Friday, and it stars four of the funniest ladies in Hollywood: Michelle Buteau, Leslie Mann, Anna Faris and Isla Fisher.

The film follows three friends who are going through it in their personal lives, so they decide to treat themselves to a spa weekend away. But when the fourth member of their group—the wild, loose-cannon Mel (Fisher)—shows up unannounced, things get out of hand real fast.

In advance of the film’s release, I was able to sit down with the Spa Weekend stars for an exclusive interview to discuss everything from their personal group chat (called “Spa Beauties”) to Buteau’s on-set mishap involving a mud bath.

First and foremost, I had to know if there was a group chat going on behind the scenes. Apparently, there is and it’s quite active.

Fisher revealed, “Yes! It’s called ‘Spa Beauties,’ no big deal. Because we’re beautiful!”

Buteau added, referring to Fisher, who resides in London, “And it’s a WhatsApp chat because she lives on a different continent.”

As for what comes up in the chat, Buteau let me know, “These women are like walking Google. They’re like walking ChatGPT. They know a lot about very random things, so I’m just like, ‘What?'”

This gave Fisher the perfect opening to make a personal confession: “In my friend group, they call me ‘Dr. Fisher.’ I’ve got a couple of friends who are doctors, and they actually text me when there’s certain people coming into the office and they’re like, ‘What do you think these characteristics could mean?’ That is how obsessed—I have a medical encyclopedia by my bed. So I think I provide a lot of the cautionary tales that maybe medically are dangerous.”

Since the film is based on spa experiences, I asked their feelings about a number of “controversial” spa treatments. The group was pro cold plunges, pro getting a foot massage and anti giving a foot massage. Things were mixed on crystals for chakra healing—Buteau, Mann and Fisher were on board, while Faris said, “No crystals for me. I will not let L.A. infiltrate like that!”

In the film, Buteau’s character takes a mud bath, so I asked if she enjoys those in real life. I wasn’t prepared for her response…

“Not unless you want the Pottery Barn coming out of your coochi-coo!” Buteau said. Then she gave a little insight into what the mud bath was really like during filming. “You ever seen Ghost? That’s what it was like when I went to the bathroom!”

Fisher then used her unofficial doctorate to weigh in, saying, “As a doctor, as Dr. Fisher, it’s not hygienic for your cooka to have so much muddy water injected up there.”

Buteau wrapped things up from there: “Well, you really are a doctor. But I’ll tell you what, it was giving—it was giving art week down there.”

As you can clearly tell, this cast has major chemistry both on and off the screen. See for yourself in Spa Weekend, opening Friday, Aug. 21, in theaters everywhere.
