Sony to skip CES 2027, ending decades-long presence

Sony Group Corp. will not exhibit at the CES technology show in Las Vegas in January 2027. The decision ends a presence that dates back to the event’s first edition in 1967, as the company shifts its focus towards entertainment content.
Neither Sony nor its affiliates plan to take part, a Sony spokesperson said, confirming an earlier report by Nikkei.
Sony did not have its own booth at CES in January this year. Afeela, its electric-vehicle joint venture with Honda Motor Co., did display its car at the show. The two companies set up the venture in 2022 and said this year they would reassess its future. It has since been scrapped.
For many years Sony had one of the largest booths at CES, and its keynote events drew large crowds. It stayed at the show even as other Japanese companies cut back their presence.
“We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business,” Sony said in a statement. The company said its focus continues to move towards entertainment, intellectual property and technology to support creators.
Games, music and film now make up a growing share of Sony’s business. The company is still a key supplier of image sensors used in cars, and its executives have argued that vehicles could eventually support new forms of in-car entertainment.
