Snap Inc. beat Wall Street’s expectations across the board in its second-quarter 2026 earnings release, posting revenue of $1.599 billion — up 19% year-over-year — while confirming that its long-awaited Specs augmented reality glasses will get a dedicated launch event on September 16 in Los Angeles. The results, published in Snap’s official Q2 2026 financial statement, also showed Adjusted EBITDA rocketing to $250 million from just $41 million a year earlier, alongside a narrowed net loss of $164 million.

For readers who track gaming hardware and the AR/VR arms race as closely as traditional consoles, Snap’s numbers matter well beyond social media circles. The company is one of a handful of players still betting big on consumer AR glasses as a gaming and entertainment platform, and this quarter gave the clearest signal yet of how that bet is being funded.

Revenue, EBITDA and User Numbers All Beat Estimates

According to Snap’s official announcement, revenue was $1,599 million, compared to $1,345 million in the prior year, an increase of 19% year-over-year. That topped the consensus tracked by analysts; CNBC reported the figure came in at $1.6 billion vs. $1.54 billion expected

Profitability improved just as sharply. Snap confirmed net loss was $164 million, compared to $263 million in the prior year, while Adjusted EBITDA was $250 million, compared to $41 million in the prior year. Free cash flow also turned positive again, with Free Cash Flow was $121 million, compared to $24 million in the prior year, marking, per earnings-call commentary, the platform’s eighth straight quarter in the black on that metric.

User growth held steady too. CNBC noted “after several quarters of improving our ad products and go-to-market approach, we saw better momentum with large advertisers in North America and stronger revenue growth internationally,” according to CEO Evan Spiegel’s investor letter, who also added the company got a boost from spending tied to the World Cup.

Specs AR Glasses Get a Firm September 16 Launch Date

The headline for hardware watchers is Snap’s confirmation of a concrete date for its consumer AR glasses. Per Tech Times’ reporting on the earnings release, Snap confirmed September 16 as the launch event for Specs, its $2,195 AR glasses, giving prospective buyers a firm countdown after years of teasers. 24/7 Wall St.’s earnings breakdown of Snap’s own guidance corroborated the date, noting SPECS commercial launch is planned for later in fall 2026, with a launch event scheduled for September 16th in Los Angeles.

Key specifications remain under wraps. Tech Times observed that as of August 3, 2026, Snap continues to accept $200 refundable deposits for Specs without publishing the device’s display resolution, brightness, or refresh rate. The event itself is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. local) and will be availablee fuller technical detail is expected

Where AI-Driven Ads and Subscriptions Fit In

Snap’s core advertising business, which funds projects like Specs, also improved. BigGo Finance’s summary of the earnings call detailed that growth was driven by 9% advertising growth to $1.28 billion and an 85% surge in other revenue to $316 million, with the wider subscription push — spanning Snapchat+, Lens+ and Memories Storage — increasingly treated as a second growth engine alongside ads.

AI tooling was credited as a major driver of ad efficiency. The same earnings-call recap noted that growth was powered by AI-driven advertising tools, including Smart Campaign solutions, which delivered a 56% increase in platform conversions, while cost per app install fell 8% and cost per purchase fell 18%, and app purchase volume soared 128%.

A Different Story to Meta’s AR/VR Cash Burn

Snap’s improved footing stands in contrast to the rocky quarter posted by its biggest rival in immersive hardware. Tech Times pointed out that Meta, which reported Q2 the prior week, posted weaker-than-expected guidance and saw free cash flow fall sharply — to $784 million — as its AI capital expenditure program consumed nearly all operating cash flow. Shane the Gamer covered Meta’s own Reality Labs unit posting a multibillion-dollar quarterly loss alongside shrinking first-party VR game studios, so Snap heading into its own AR hardware launch with positive free cash flow — rather than the ballooning losses seen elsewhere in the sector — is a notable point of difference for anyone tracking who can actually afford to keep building AR and VR gaming hardware.

Q3 Guidance Points to Continued Growth Ahead of the Specs Reveal

Looking ahead, Snap’s own guidance suggests momentum should carry through to the Specs event. CNBC reported that Snap said third-quarter sales should come in between $1.7 billion to $1.74 billion… Adjusted earnings will be between $300 million and $350 million, both figures ahead of prior analyst expectations.

The market’s reaction was immediate. Multiple outlets confirmed shares jumped in after-hours trading following the release, with 24/7 Wall St. describing it as a “stronger-than-expected second quarter for fiscal 2026, posting revenue of $1.60 billion, up 18.9% year-over-year and ahead of the $1.53 billion consensus estimate”. For a company that has spent years promising an AR future, the combination of a healthier balance sheet and a locked-in September date gives Snap its clearest runway yet to prove Specs can be more than a demo — and, potentially, a real contender in AR gaming and interactive media alongside consoles and headsets from Sony, Meta and Apple.
