New York Comic Con 2026 is already shaping up to be one epic celebration of pop culture, and now the convention is adding a very BIG surprise to the guest lineup! NBA legend, entertainer, and entrepreneur Shaquille O’Neal is heading to the Javits Center for a special appearance during this year’s NYCC.
O’Neal will make his surprise appearance on Thursday, October 8, where he’ll be promoting his upcoming comic book series, SHAQUILLE O’NEAL PRESENTS… VENGEANCE UNCHAINED: THE LEGEND OF BLACK CAESAR, created in partnership with Archie Comics.
And yes, this is one comic book announcement that is definitely larger than life!
Shaq Sets Sail With Black Caesar
Launching this December, SHAQUILLE O’NEAL PRESENTS… VENGEANCE UNCHAINED: THE LEGEND OF BLACK CAESAR brings the legendary pirate king Black Caesar to the comic book world in an ambitious new series from Archie Comics and O’Neal.
The story follows an African king whose extraordinary physical presence and royal status are shattered when he is forced into slavery. His journey eventually takes him into the world of piracy, where he sets out to find his kidnapped love while discovering that freedom in the Caribbean may only belong to those willing to fight for it.
Talk about an adventure!
The series brings together an impressive creative team, including two-time Eisner-nominated writer Stephanie Williams (Roots of Madness, Temporal), Eisner Award-winning artist Ray-Anthony Height and Studio Skye Tiger (Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Midnight Tiger), along with writer Matthew Gross of Authentic Studios.
With a legendary historical figure, pirates, action, adventure, and a creative team packed with comic book talent, Vengeance Unchained is setting its sights on becoming one of the year’s biggest comics events.
Meet Shaq at NYCC 2026
Fans attending New York Comic Con on Thursday, October 8 will have the opportunity to see Shaquille O’Neal at the Javits Center as he celebrates the upcoming series.
Meet-and-greet reservations with Shaq were made available through NYCC’s official reservations portal, giving fans an opportunity to get up close with the basketball icon as he steps into the world of comics.
Thursday tickets for NYCC 2026 are still available, so fans who want to catch this special appearance can still make plans to head to New York.
NYCC 2026 Is Celebrating 20 Years!
This year’s New York Comic Con is already shaping up to be massive, and the convention has an especially big milestone to celebrate: NYCC’s 20th anniversary!
Taking over the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City from October 8-11, 2026, NYCC is bringing together some of the biggest names from movies, television, comics, gaming, and pop culture.
O’Neal joins an already stacked guest lineup that includes Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid from Star Wars, Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, 300), Matt Smith (House of the Dragon, Doctor Who), Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things, Camelot), as well as legendary puppeteers Matt Vogel, the performer behind Kermit the Frog, and Dave Goelz, the legendary performer behind Gonzo the Great.
And that’s just scratching the surface of what NYCC 2026 has in store!
With Shaq bringing Vengeance Unchained to the show, the 20th anniversary celebration is getting an extra dose of comic book history, larger-than-life personalities, and pirate-fueled adventure.
NYCC 2026 takes place October 8-11 at the Javits Center in New York City. Thursday tickets are still available for fans looking to join the celebration.
