WASHINGTON (TNND) —Sens. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., and Dick Durbin, D-Ill., announced an investigation into Roblox and how the company handles child safety.
“Roblox appears to prioritize revenue and engagement metrics over the safety and well-being of our children, and the alleged criminal activity on Roblox warrants congressional scrutiny,” the senators wrote in a letter obtained by the Politico news outlet.
In response to the letter, Roblox’s chief safety officer said the company was built on the foundation of safety.
“Roblox is built on the foundation of safety. We do not compromise on that commitment,” Matt Kaufman said in a statement. “We look forward to sharing the facts about how we protect children on the platform.”
Hawley and Durbin have requested Roblox CEO David Baszucki hand over documents regarding details about how the company goes about prioritizing the safety of children who use the platform.
The senators are referencing instances in the past where adults on Roblox have allegedly committed crimes against children such as grooming and kidnapping.
“Let us be clear: children on your platform are hurting,” Hawley and Durbin stated. “Congress will not look the other way.”
