Salman Khan spoke out against online trolling on the latest Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 20. He talked about body-shaming, age-shaming and the mocking of a mother over her weight after pregnancy.
Salman did not say Katrina Kaif’s name. Reports say his remarks came days after she was trolled online for her postpartum weight. The trolling followed her appearance at the Ambanis’ Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. She attended with her husband, Vicky Kaushal.
Viewers on social media took his words as a defense of Katrina. Salman and Katrina are former partners.
His words on pregnancy
Salman asked why people troll someone who has become pregnant. He said everyone puts on weight after pregnancy. He said she will look fit again when she returns to work.
Also, he said she wants to spend time with her family.
Salman removed his hat and jacket on stage. He then took off his shirt and wiped the makeup off his face on camera. He challenged trolls to mock him now.
Then he responded to comments about his age, weight and looks. He said he knows who trolls him. He said he does not react, and he said his fan clubs are large.
His bald look
Salman addressed the bald look that has drawn comment online. He said it is for a project. He rejected talk of a hair transplant.
Also, he said a friend of his died two months ago. The remark came as he explained why he has looked different lately.
Concern versus mockery
Salman drew a line between two kinds of comment. He said showing concern for someone who looks unwell or has lost weight is fine. He said mocking someone’s looks is wrong.
Then he named his brother Sohail Khan and actor Varun Sharma. He said mocking them over their looks is not acceptable. He told trolls to look at themselves and their families first.
The “parasites” remark
Salman called people who constantly comment on looks “parasites.” He said such behaviour needs to be wiped out.
Also, he spoke about audiences. He said viewers can choose not to watch a film. He said a ticket buys the film and not the actors.
Salman also criticised some paparazzi. He said some photographers shoot actresses from behind. He said they focus on legs, thighs and hips.
Then he named several women who had raised the issue. They were his “Dabangg” co-actress Sai, Neha Dhupia and his niece. He urged women to call out such behaviour.
