Sailor Moon’s Princess Serenity transforms into a real costume straight from the anime

Sailor Moon fans can see one of the series’ most iconic transformations come to life in a stunning new image.

As seen in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post by cosplayer Madoka Tsukimiya, Sailor Moon’s classic Princess Serenity transformation is brought to life in an incredibly detailed new cosplay. Notably, the costume itself was produced by Madoka’s fellow professional cosplayer Princess Usako, who has made headlines many times for her past Sailor Moon cosplays.

Sailor Moon and other Sailor Guardians’ most iconic looks have been recreated in cosplay countless times, but certain transformations have become less frequent, especially as their complexity increases. This makes recent Princess Serenity cosplays even more lovely to look at as she has an incredibly detailed look, even without the wings she picked up during the Sailor Moon SuperS event.

In the Sailor Moon franchise, Princess Serenity was a princess of an ancient lunar kingdom known as the Silver Millennium. During the Silver Millennium, Princess Serenity sneaked away to Earth to meet Prince Endymion, with whom she shared a torrid romance.

Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion lost their lives in the war against Queen Beryl’s invading army, but thanks to Queen Serenity’s efforts and use of the Silver Crystal, the pair and the Sailor Senshi were all reincarnated on Earth. While this set in motion the events of the Sailor Moon series, it was not until later in the series that Usagi Tsukino realized her true nature and powers as the reincarnated Princess Serenity.

Sailor Moon fans had a rough year in 2025 amid rising political tensions

Fans of the series have been bombarded with Sailor Moon in various mediums, but the release of Sailor Moon Cosmos in 2023 marks the end of Sailor Moon Crystal, and with it, an updated version of the classic story. As such, there isn’t much that fans can expect from the new anime, which makes the series of problems caused by the hit Sailor Moon: The Super Live 2025 in recent weeks all the more painful.

In late November, it was confirmed that the Beijing leg of The Super Live Tour had been canceled “in accordance with unavoidable circumstances and local decisions.” This means that a total of five performances in Beijing have been cancelled, but it was noted that the performances in Hangzhou and Shanghai scheduled at the time would go ahead as originally scheduled.

However, just two days later, the production company made an official announcement that the Hangzhou performance of “Sailor Moon The Super Live 2025” would also be cancelled. Less than 24 hours after the second announcement, it was confirmed that all of Sailor Moon The Super Live 2025’s performances in Shanghai were also canceled, and the show’s entire tour across China came to an early end.
