Phantom Blade Zero is among the most anticipated games of 2026, yet many were turned off by the lack of a physical release, as pre-ordering the PlayStation 5 version of the game developed by S-Game is still impossible by all physical retailers, including Playasia. However, the soon-to-be-released action game will get a physical edition a few months after its debut on October 29, though it may not be what most expect it to be.
Earlier today, S-Game released the game’s launch trailer, which provides yet another exciting overview of the game’s story and intense gameplay, including some rather unique weapons that haven’t been shown before. At the end of the launch trailer, the Chinese development studio not only confirmed that it will be possible to pre-load the game from October 26 at 7:00 PM PDT ahead of its October 28 7:00 PM PDT global launch date, but also that a physical PlayStation 5 edition will launch sometime in 2027. In this regard, S-Game seems to be going all out with three different editions – Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate Edition with a gorgeous Collectible Steel Case.
While seeing Phantom Blade Zero push back against the all-digital future PlayStation is set to go for starting in 2028 when it will cease production of all game discs, the game’s physical edition may not include the entire game, and may require an additional download. As reported by PlayStation Game Size on X a few days ago, the game’s download size is a whopping 134.857 GB, which will obviously not fit on a single Blu-ray disc. As we did get PlayStation 5 physical releases with multiple discs, such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, there’s still the chance that S-Game will go with a dual disc release, but without an official confirmation, there’s still a high chance an additional download will be required.
No matter how the physical edition of Phantom Blade Zero will be handled, it’s great news that those who are completely opposed to digital-only releases will be able to get the game at some point. Having played the game already during gamescom 2024 and 2025, I have little doubt that S-Game has crafted something unique with the potential of becoming one of the best action RPGs of the current generation, if not the very best, so it would have been a shame for some to miss it.
