Ryan Reynolds thanked Deadpool fans after secretly wandering the floor at San Diego Comic-Con in costume, revealing that dozens of people stopped for photos without realising they were posing with the actor himself.

Reynolds had spent the day undercover at San Diego Comic-Con as Jeanpool, the grey-and-blue variant of Deadpool from the Marvel comics, blending in with hundreds of cosplayers as he posed for photos with fans before later revealing himself during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation.

“The fans got Deadpooloff the ground so many years ago,” Reynolds wrote, sharing a behind-the-scenes video on social media the following day.

“Yesterday, 10 years after the first film and exactly two years after Deadpool & Wolverine, I felt so lucky to be on the SDCC floor with everyone whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world,” he added.

He continued: “No handlers, no security, no ropes. What a gift. Thanks to everyone I met, who aren’t only cosplaying but world-building. And also… actual Sergeant Slaughter!”

In the video, Reynolds can be seen in his outfit, joking with families, greeting fellow Deadpoolcosplayers and stopping for photos with fans throughout the San Diego Convention Center, with none appearing to recognise him beneath the full-face mask.

At one point, he playfully crosses swords with another Deadpool cosplayer, and poses with a fan dressed as Olaf from Frozen.

Reynolds later dropped the disguise during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation, where the cast of Avengers: Doomsday had gathered to promote the forthcoming film.

After Robert Downey Jr spotted the masked figure and joked: “Who’s this guy with the swords and stuff?” Reynolds stepped up to the microphone as Jeanpool, introducing himself as a “long-time listener, first-time caller”.

“So there’s no additional photography, overages, hot costs, maybe last-minute additions?” he asked, trying to pitch Deadpool for a rolein the film.

Despite Deadpool not being listed to appear in the film, there have been a number of rumours that Reynolds’s character will have a role.

Reynolds confirmed just days ago that another Deadpool film is in the works, and its storylines from certain “really deep cuts” that he believes are “missing from the movies”.

“There’s certainly some stuff that I love that [Deadpool co-creator] Fabian Nicieza wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, another friend and incredible comic writer, that we can put in. But then there’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. So it’s going to be great,” he said at Fanatics Fest NYC 2026 at New York City’s Javits Center earlier this month.

Reynolds first played Deadpool in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and then spent years trying to persuade 20th Century Fox to approve a standalone, R-rated Deadpool film. CGI test footage showing Reynolds in costume leaked online in July 2014 and quickly went viral.

Reynolds later said the overwhelming fan response forced the studio to reconsider, with Fox giving the project the green light within 24 hours of the leak.

The first Deadpool was <a href="https://comicvibe.com/goodbye-lara-episode-5-story-preview-cuts-released/” title=”Goodbye, Lara Episode 5 Story & Preview Cuts Released”>released in 2016 and earned Reynolds a Golden Globe nomination.

He later reprised the role in Deadpool 2 in 2018 and Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. According to Deadline, the latter grossed approximately $1.3bn worldwide, taking the franchise past the $2bn mark at the global box office.
