Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc. are bringing a live-action film based on “The Legend of Zelda,” to theaters on April 30th, 2027, and the film will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.. It’s that last part that’s very important, as it ties in directly to today’s rumor.
We’ve seen a couple of stills and had various leaks from The Legend of Zelda movie, but we haven’t seen a single bit of official footage or a teaser trailer. If rumor is to be believed, that could be changing very soon, and you might want to book your ticket to The Social Reckoning to catch the debut trailer on the big screen.
Movie insider iNCREDiPiNOY is claiming that Nintendo and Sony will be sharing the first trailer for The Legend of Zelda on Oct. 8th, 2026. This is the same date that The Social Reckoning hits theaters, which is another Sony Pictures project. The trailer will run before screenings of The Social Reckoning, but you’d have to imagine it will also drop online the same day. Again, please note that this is just a rumor for now.
The live-action film is based on “The Legend of Zelda,” the action-adventure game series that began in 1986. The film is co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, who co-produced “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (released in 2023) and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” (released in 2026), and Avi Arad, head of Arad Productions Inc., who has produced numerous blockbuster films.
The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. Nintendo will contribute more than 50% of the film’s production costs, with Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. handling worldwide distribution and co-financing. The cast includes Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.
