Roblox has received an official tie-in game for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey. Titled The Odyssey: Defy the Gods, the free-to-play experience has been released by Universal Pictures ahead of the film’s theatrical debut later this month, allowing players to step into the role of Odysseus and recreate parts of his journey across the sea.According to the game’s official description, players can “Pack a crew, ration your supplies, and appease the gods for the right of safe passage.” The game lets players explore islands for food and water, survive storms and whirlpools, solve puzzles and experience “a new ocean every voyage.” It also supports multiplayer gameplay.
What ‘The Odyssey Defy the Gods’ Roblox game offers
In the Roblox game, players control Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as they attempt to return home while navigating a series of challenges inspired by Homer’s epic poem. The gameplay combines exploration, survival and puzzle-solving, with each voyage designed to feature a different ocean experience.The game carries an 18+ age recommendation on Roblox. According to its listing, the content includes mild instances of “Violence” and “Fear.” The age rating aligns with the upcoming film, which has received an R rating.Movie studios have increasingly used platforms such as Roblox to release promotional game experiences tied to upcoming films instead of developing standalone console or PC titles.Previous films, including Black Adam and the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, also received Roblox tie-in games before their theatrical releases.The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan’s first feature film since Oppenheimer.
