“Roblox” is bringing game creation to mobile for the first time through a new feature called Build, which lets users turn simple text prompts into playable experiences directly from their phone or tablet.
The tool marks a significant shift for the platform, which has traditionally required a Mac or PC to build anything using Roblox Studio.
‘Roblox’ Adds New AI-Powered Games Creation Feature
According to the company’s release, Build functions as a new creation tab within the “Roblox” app, powered by a mix of open-
A user could type something like “let’s make a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest with environmental obstacles,” and Build will generate a starting point that creators can then playtest, refine, and share with friends or publish publicly.
“Roblox” says Build extends the same capabilities already found in “Roblox” Studio, the desktop tool creators have used for years, into the mobile app itself.
Since both tools share the same back end, models, and chat history, creators can start a project in Build on their phone and later continue refining it in Studio or launch more complex tasks from Studio and check progress later through their mobile device.
According to “Roblox,” its proprietary AI models were trained on a large set of 3D models and gaming-specific data. This allows Build to generate functional 3D objects and full scenes that integrate directly into working games using Roblox’s existing creation tools.
‘Roblox’ Wants You to ‘Build Without Limits’ With AI
“Roblox” framed the announcement around expanding its original founding idea that anyone can be a creator, regardless of technical skill, said 9to5Mac. The company noted that its discovery systems will continue prioritizing games based on player retention and engagement rather than sheer volume.
Alongside Build, “Roblox” is also rolling out a broader suite of AI-powered tools for professional creators across both Build and Studio.
- A playtesting agent designed to catch bugs before players encounter them
- An analytics agent that lets creators ask questions about their game in plain language
- An experiment agent meant to suggest tests aimed at improving engagement and monetization
Roblox also mentioned an upcoming scene generation model that will be able to build entire editable and playable 3D scenes from a single prompt.
Enjoy ‘Roblox’s’ New AI Tool on iPhone, iPad
Build is set to begin testing on July 28, launching first as a public alpha exclusively for users in New Zealand before expanding to more regions in the months ahead, coming to the iPhone and iPad version of the app.
During this alpha phase, Build will be available to age-verified users 9 and older, while games created through the tool will be available globally to age-verified users 16 and older once they pass “Roblox’s” standard safety review process.
Games created using Build will go through the same extended review and retention-based discovery system used for all other Roblox experiences before appearing in the platform’s Kids or Select catalogs.
Roblox says a base-level version of Build will be free to use, with additional paid options available for more advanced creators looking to unlock deeper functionality.
