Making games with AI…More than 100,000 people experience
Run browser right away without app
Support the release of independent apps for each game
Creator’s annual revenue of $1.7 billion
Roblox, a game platform, has started to build an ecosystem where anyone can use artificial intelligence (AI) to make games with a few words and distribute them to the web and app stores. The strategy is to expand the scope to a “game creation platform” where anyone produces and distributes games, as if making and sharing videos on YouTube.
Roblox unveiled its AI game production tool “Build,” browser game execution, and standalone apps at the Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) 2026 held on the 11th (local time). “We have a moment ahead of us when creating an interactive world becomes as common as making videos or writing stories,” said David Bazuki, co-founder and CEO of Roblox.
The key is to make games using AI. In the build, AI creates a game by combining coding, 3D, and image generation models when a user enters the desired content, such as “Please create a theme park with a moving Ferris wheel and a go-kart track.” At the event, a 3D game with a Ferris wheel and a track was created about 12 minutes after entering this sentence. In the initial trial, more than 100,000 people tried to make the game.
With AI, the characters in the game also change. Instead of the existing method in which developers decide their lines and actions one by one, if the character’s character and purpose are explained in writing, AI introduces an “NPC dynamic behavior” function that acts on its own according to the situation. It also introduced a function that allows 100 AI characters to play the game like real users at the same time, and then automatically tests which team or item is too strong.
It also broadens the way you enjoy games. Starting from the end of this year, you will be able to run the game right away by simply pressing the link without installing the Roblox app on your Chrome browser. Developers can also make games made by Roblox into stand-alone apps such as PCs and mobile devices and put them on app stores. It breaks the boundaries of the existing structure that distributed games only within Roblox. It also supports offline games and 2D and 2.5D games that are enjoyed without an Internet connection.
The reason why Roblox simultaneously lowers the threshold for production and distribution is the rapidly growing user and creator ecosystem. In the second quarter, users from 180 countries around the world spent more than 29 billion hours at Roblox. Creators have earned $1.7 billion over the past 12 months. In the U.S., Roblox accounts for about 20% of gaming sales under the age of 18, with users ages 18-34 also up 42% from the previous year.
It will also change the way creators pay their profits. Starting from the end of this year, it plans to introduce Roblox Wallet so that game makers can receive profits directly in dollars and automatically receive daily payments. In 2027, the company will also launch a “Roblox Card” that allows the balance of the wallet to be used at external merchants.
