Robert Ben Garant and Bat Boy: the link-up you didn’t know you needed. According to <a href="https://deadline.com/2026/10/weekly-world-news-comedy-series-independent-private-finance-1237171751/” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Deadline, the former State and Reno 911!member is developing a new improvised comedy show focusing on tabloid mainstay the Weekly World News.Garant will serve as co-showrunner with his wife and frequent collaborator Cathy Shim (Paws of Fury, Oishi High School Battle).
“I grew up with Weekly World News. It’s made me laugh for a long time. Our take is that every story in the Weekly World News is true. If it made the paper, it happened.” Garant said. “So our reporters are busting their ass to report these incredible stories, but they all have chips on their shoulders because everyone thinks their paper is a joke.”
The series was commissioned by Weekly World News Studios, which raised $2.5 million to make it. It will film in Simi Valley, California, just outside of Los Angeles. The show will be shot in the same “improvised mockumentary” style as Reno 911!,making it the second sequel series about the print media crisis in recent years. Coincidence, or conspiracy?
