If you’re a fan of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+, buckle up;  because Rick Riordan’s mythological universe is about to get a whole lot bigger.

Disney+ has officially announced that The Kane Chronicles, Riordan’s beloved Egyptian mythology trilogy, is now in development as a live-action series. The announcement came September 3, 2026, and yes; Riordan himself is back on board to help bring it to life.

    What Is The Kane Chronicles?

For those who haven’t read the books, here’s the quick version: The Kane Chronicles is a three-book series (The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, and The Serpent’s Shadow) that follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane — two estranged kids who discover they’re descendants of the pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great, and that ancient Egyptian magic is very much still a thing.

The official description for the series sets up the story perfectly: “When their father unleashes the god of chaos and vanishes, the estranged Kane siblings must master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can wreak havoc on our modern world.”

Think Percy Jackson but make it ancient Egypt. It’s got the same Riordan DNA: mythology woven into the modern world, sibling dynamics, reluctant heroes, and gods causing absolute chaos.

    Who’s Behind It?

This isn’t Riordan’s first rodeo with Disney+. Fresh off his successful collaboration on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, he’s returning as executive producer alongside his wife Rebecca Riordan. Joining them are Percy Jackson executive producers Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell so the team that helped make Percy such a hit is coming back for round two.

Stepping in as showrunner is Angela Robinson, known for her work on How to Get Away with Murder, True Blood, and The L Word. She’s a strong pick for a series that needs to balance big mythology moments with grounded, character-driven storytelling. The series is being produced by 20th Television.

It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the first time The Kane Chronicles has been in development — Netflix had the project at one point before it departed in 2024. Having it land at Disney+, under the same banner as Percy Jackson, feels like the right home for it.

Could There Be a Crossover with Percy Jackson?

Fans are already buzzing about this one, and honestly; it’s not a crazy idea. Riordan’s books exist in a shared universe, and The Kane Chronicles characters actually crossed over with Percy Jackson in a series of short stories. There’s also Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Riordan’s Norse mythology series, that rounds out the broader world.

Disney hasn’t confirmed anything about crossovers, but with Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 premiering on November 20, 2026, the timing of this announcement feels very intentional.

    What’s Next?

The series is still in early development, so we don’t have casting news, a premiere date, or episode counts just yet. But with Riordan involved, the Percy Jackson producing team on board, and the momentum that show has built for Disney+, there’s plenty of reason to be excited.

We’ll keep you updated as more details come in. In the meantime, if you haven’t read The Kane Chronicles, now is a great time to get ahead of the adaptation! Stay tuned to The Main Street Mouse for all the latest Disney+ news.
