Titan Comics has locked in September 29 for the English-language print debut of the Resident Evil: Death Island manga, a 224-page black-and-white volume from artist Zino adapting Capcom’s 2023 CG film of the same name. The physical paperback runs $12.99, with a digital edition at $8.99, according to Titan’s own product listing and confirmed independently by outlets including Notebookcheck and CBR. It’s a straight page-to-panel retelling, not a new story, so don’t go in expecting fresh plot beats.
The cast reads like a greatest-hits list: Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield and Rebecca Chambers all show up, and the story is set in 2015, between the events of Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7. Titan Comics is publishing the black-and-white paperback for $12.99, with a digital edition also available for $8.99, with Waterstones retailing for £9.99. That’s a fair price for a single volume against most Western trade paperbacks, and cheaper than a lot of licensed game-tie-in comics running the same page count.
Pre-orders are already live through major book and comic retailers ahead of the release. Some European storefronts are showing a slightly later ship window, so if you’re ordering outside North America, check your specific retailer’s date rather than assuming everyone gets it on the 29th.
Zino’s Panels Adapt Alcatraz, Not Reinvent It
Brought to life by manga artist Zino in collaboration with Capcom and Death Island Film Partners, the 224-page first volume adapts the events of the 2023 CG-animated film of the same name, which followed a fan-favorite ensemble cast through a T-virus outbreak in San Francisco. Zino previously drew Phantom Blade, and this is his first crack at a Western Resident Evil license. Titan’s official solicit calls it a story where the cast will “expands the Resident Evil universe with heart-stopping encounters, explosive set pieces, and character-driven drama”, which is marketing copy doing marketing-copy things, so treat that framing as a claim rather than a review verdict until readers can compare panels to the source film themselves.
The underlying plot hasn’t changed since the film’s 2023 debut. The film was released theatrically first in Singapore on June 22, 2023, in Taiwan and Malaysia on June 29, and Greece on July 6, before its release in Japan on July 7. The film also released theatrically in Mexico on July 13, 2023. Anyone who’s already sat through the movie should know exactly what plot beats are coming; the pitch here is entirely about format and art, not new canon.
Only Confirmed Resident Evil Print Release Before the Veronica Remake
What actually makes this release worth tracking is timing. The release currently stands as the only confirmed official Resident Evil media tied to the games and film side of the franchise before Capcom’s Resident Evil Veronica remake arrives in 2027. That remake reimagines the 2000 Dreamcast game Resident Evil: Code Veronica, once again putting Claire Redfield front and centre. Our take: slotting a manga in during a quiet stretch between mainline releases is a smart, low-cost way for Capcom to keep the ensemble cast visible without committing to new development budget.
It also helps explain why Titan is pushing five named leads on the cover rather than one. A manga built around a full team-up gives Capcom a reason to remind readers that Jill, Chris, Leon, Claire and Rebecca all still exist in the same continuity, ahead of a remake that will pull Claire back into the spotlight on her own.
