Resident Evil 4 Nintendo Switch 2 tech analysis, including frame rate and resolution

New technical details have surfaced for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Resident Evil 4, including frame rate and resolution, as part of an analysis from Digital Foundry.

The analysis also goes over changes made compared to the PS5 version, and how it compares to the PS4 edition.

Here’s the full roundup of tidbits:

    – Local light sources don’t shadow cast on Switch 2
    – Shadows seem to have roughly similar resolution to PS5
    – Other lighting changes present on Switch 2
    – Characters seem to have absent or degraded subsurface scattering in this version
    – No screen space reflections included on Switch 2, but this is actually beneficial as it came with issues on PS5
    – Changes in ground surfaces on Switch 2
    – Level of detail scaling more aggressive and sparser foliage
    – Textures downgraded at times, but texture resolution seems about on par with PS5
    – Distant enemies run at reduced rates on Switch 2
    – Switch 2 and PS4 versions share a lot in common
    – Texture resolution often better than PS4
    – Switch 2 has lower foliage density and lower volumetric lighting than PS4
    – Switch 2 resolution is 520p docked internally and 360p in handheld mode, compared to 900p on PS4 and 1944p on PS5
    – Switch 2 output resolution bumped up with DLSS
    – Targets 60 FPS and hits the target most of the time
    – Can go into the 50s in certain zones, and into the 40s with dense encounters
    – Cutscenes also have a variable frame rate level
    – Switch 2 version has better performance than PS4
    – Docked and handheld modes have similar visual settings
    – Resident Evil 2 and 3 seem to have fewer frame rate dips on Switch 2
