Old-school PlayStation gamers should have fond memories of Guerrilla Games’ Killzone series. What was once Sony PlayStation’s premier first-person shooter franchise that was even dubbed the “Halo Killer” in the now-infamous E3 trailer has since been sidelined in favor of the Horizon franchise.

Well, it seems Sony has plans to revive the series, as MP1st has learned that a new Killzone project is in the very early stages of production. While we aren’t expecting an official announcement anytime soon, based on what we’ve heard, Killzone is indeed back on Guerrilla’s plate.

Killzone Is Returning With the Help of an External Studio

According to people familiar with the situation, Guerrilla Games is working with an external (read: not PlayStation first-party) studio on a Killzone remaster/remake. So far, it hasn’t been specified which game in the franchise is being updated, but common sense points to the first 2004 entry as the most sensible choice.

We were told this Killzone project was supposed to be Guerrilla’s next focus after Horizon Hunter’s Gathering, with some of the team allocated to it, but after the recent report that the title was rebooted due to negative feedback, fixing that game is now the studio’s priority. This would leave part of Guerrilla pivoting back to Killzone once work on Hunter’s Gathering is complete. It’s our understanding that Horizon 3 will come after the next Killzone project, but given how early this project is, don’t rule out plans changing.

Other whispers suggest the project could take a different direction, as the idea of a full reboot has also popped up. However, the most consistent intel we’ve gathered claims this will be a visual uplift of an older title.

But which external studio is partnering with Guerrilla? If you’ve been following Sony’s recent collaborations closely, you might already know the answer. In March 2025, PlayStation and developer People Can Fly signed an agreement to co-develop a title codenamedDelta, a project set to be based on an existing PlayStation IP.

What we’ve heard strongly indicates that PCF will be in charge of this new Killzone, though we couldn’t get definitive confirmation. If true, the title would join the studio’s already extensive list of productions, such as Project Florence, a partnership with 2K based on one of their IPs, and other projects tied to Krafton and Microsoft licenses.

Bear in mind that things change, but from what we’ve heard from multipleorks

The last Killzone game released was Killzone: Shadow Fall for the PS4 back in 2013. It did receive generally positive reviews, and even had a thriving multiplayer community, with servers only shutting down in August 2022.
