How Coven Academy became a streaming hit among teens

Coven Academy became the No. 1 streaming show among teens ages 12-17 over its premiere weekend. The show generated over 20.3 million global hours of viewership in its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu. The first chapter also garnered more than 30 million views after being released on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

Nielsen data also showed that many viewers watched the series alongside an adult. The data showed that half of viewers ages 12–17 and nearly two-thirds of viewers ages 6–11 watched the series with an adult. Aside from Federle, all of the episodes were directed by female directors

Coven Academy follows the lives of three teenage witches aboard an elite magic school in New Orleans. Season 1 currently holds a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience score at 72%. The series also uses an unconventional format, with its streaming chapters running between 10 and 22 minutes.

The first season’s executive producers include Federle, Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Amanda Row, and Bronwyn North-Reist. The series is produced by Federle’s Chorus Boy Productions in association with Disney Kids & Family.
