Ramayana Sets Early Launch Date Ahead of India Release
    • Sony Pictures Entertainment will globally release the epic adaptation of Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash on November 6.
    • The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, follows the story of Rama and Sita’s separation leading to an epic war between righteousness and evil, featuring high-scale visual effects and a score by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
    • The release date during Diwali holds deep significance as it marks Rama’s return to Ayodhya after exile, with Part 2 of the film set to follow in 2027.

Sony locked in a global release date for Ramayana, and the timing carries more meaning than fans might expect. The studio revealed its November launch plans for the epic adaptation starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi.

Indian epic Ramayana sets November release date

Sony Pictures Entertainment will release Ramayana globally on Nov. 6. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as exiled prince Rama, Sai Pallavi as his consort Sita, and Yash as the demon king Ravana. Nitesh Tiwari directs the two-part adaptation, designed for audiences across cultures in multiple languages including English.

The story follows Rama and Sita through exile into catastrophe after Ravana abducts Sita. Their separation sets in motion an epic war between righteousness and evil across three worlds. A trailer released earlier this summer showcased high-scale visual effects, mythological weaponry, and massive battle sequences.

Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman join forces to deliver the film’s score. Terry Notary and Guy Norris handle action choreography, while Ramsey Avery and Ravi Bansal lead production design. DNEG, the eight-time Oscar-winning VFX house behind the Dune films and Interstellar, handles visual effects.

Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations produce the film. Sony holds global distribution rights, excluding India, where Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions will handle the release. Both parts were filmed for IMAX presentation.

The release window during Diwali carries deep significance for theya after 14 years of exile and his victory over Ravana. The lighting of lamps that defines the celebration represents the illumination of Ayodhya on the night its prince came home. Part 2 will follow on Diwali 2027

Tiwari, whose Dangal remains the highest-grossing Indian film ever made, directs from a screenplay by Shridhar Raghavan. The project is envisioned as an unprecedented cinematic spectacle based on the 5,000-year-old saga for global audiences.
