Hrithik Roshan joined Rajinikanth starrer Jailer 2
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is all set to release in theatres on October 15, 2026, and its hype is being boosted by its star-studded cast. The film is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, and the superstar reprises the role of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian along with a host of other big names from the Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada industries.
The expectations for the sequel are sky-high following the blockbuster success of Jailer in 2023. Other than Rajinikanth’s return, the film’s increased ensemble cast has been one of its biggest talking points, with veteran performers, popular character actors and anticipated special appearances adding to the intrigue.
One of the biggest new additions in Jailer 2 is veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty. He is said to play the role of Kalpak, a powerful cartel leader who is an enemy of Muthuvel Pandian.
Mithun has a wealth of experience to offer in the role as his career spans several decades and multiple Indian film industries. His casting also drew attention as it reunites him with Rajinikanth after their earlier associations in Bhrashtachar and Bhagya Debata.
Vidya Balan, who has won a National Award, is in the franchise as Kantha, a strong character from the antagonist network of the film. Although promotional footage has hinted at her formidable screen presence, the specifics of her character are being kept secret.
Vidya also had a notable film in Tamil cinema in Nerkonda Paarvai, and this is another one.
Bodhi Kalpak, another key player in the film’s criminal network, is played by actor-director S J Suryah. Suryah is known for his energetic performances and his ability to bring unique antagonists to life. With him on board, another familiar face joins the sequelâs ensemble.
His appointment is set to add to the controversy over Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
Dileep â Suraj Venjaramoodu
Malayalam actor Suraj Venjaramoodu plays Dileep, a character who comes across as menacing in the filmâs promotional materials.
Suraj is a versatile actor who has done comedy and serious drama and has been doing more and more leading roles in other than Malayalam movies. His inclusion in Jailer 2 also contributes to the cross-industry star cast of the film.
Hrithik Roshanâs much-talked-about appearance
One of the biggest talking points about Jailer 2 is the alleged presence of Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan. Theories grew when a promotional trailer showed a mysterious silhouette that viewers associated with the actor.
But the details of his character and his degree of involvement have been scarce. However, news of his reported appearance has generated a lot of interest, especially as it would mean his return to the same film universe as Rajinikanth decades after their association in Bhagwaan Dada.
Jatin Sarna and More New Additions
The film also stars Jatin Sarna, known widely as Bunty from the Netflix series Sacred Games. Earlier seen with Rajinikanth in Darbar, Jailer 2 will be the second film together for the two actors.
Other additions include Hakim Shahjahan, Ramachandran Durairaj, Kottayam Nazeer, Poorna, Apeksha Porwal and Rajesh Madhavan. Their characters vary from members of the villain network to the supporting cast that fleshes out the world of the film.
Comeback Stars & Special Appearances
Rajinikanth will be joined by the returning cast members Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Master Rithvik. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff are also expected to be seen in their special appearances from the first film.
Their presence was one of the biggest draws of the original Jailer, which paired Rajinikanthâs star power with memorable cameos by top actors across industries. That trend appears to be continuing with an even larger roster in the sequel.
Release Date, Cast And Crew of Jailer 2
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures, Anirudh Ravichander is back as music composer for Jailer 2. Cinematography is by Vijay Kartik Kannan, and editing is by R. Nirmal.
The film is set to premiere in cinemas globally on October 15, 2026. With Rajinikanth reprising one of his most popular recent characters and an ensemble that features several big stars, Jailer 2 is among the most-awaited Tamil releases of the year.
The full story and the roles of several new additions are still being kept under wraps, but the cast alone has kept the sequel in the discussion ahead of its arrival in theatres.
