PS5 emulator boots recent PlayStation exclusive and rumored canceled PC port

Multiple PS5 emulators are advancing, with progress made on another PlayStation exclusive game. Released in October 2025, Ghost of Yotei is one of the newer titles SharpEmu has seen success with. After Sony reportedly cut back on PC ports, it has become an even more tempting target.

    Small, but important first steps

SharpEmu is in its early stages of development and only renders the splash screen of the Sucker Punch title. A YouTube video posted by BrutalSam then shows the program crashing. Nevertheless, it’s a teaser for Steam fans who had anticipated a Ghost of Yotei PC version.

The video highlights more recent accomplishments for the app. In Demon’s Souls, testers can now get as far as the Outpost Passage tutorial menu. This follows other accomplishments with PlayStation exclusives, including Bloodborne and Astro Bot. Unfortunately, none of these PS5 games are currently playable.

Another emulator making strides is KytyPS5, which gained attention after reaching the main menu of GTA 5. The Quake II remaster is at a more advanced stage, with 3D gameplay already possible.

It’s unclear when the PS5 emulators will achieve wider compatibility. While the programs can load eboot.bin files for select titles, it may be years before they can closely simulate the console experience. Still, given that Sony’s hardware uses a familiar x86-64 CPU architecture, there are hopes for quicker breakthroughs.

    Emulators and exclusivity

In March, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier leaked that the company was altering its approach toward PlayStation exclusives. Some analysts believe that underwhelming Steam sales of PS5 PC releases are a factor. As the PS6 release date approaches, buyers would have more reason to purchase the console.

Unfortunately, Ghost of Yotei PC port may be the first casualty of this shift in direction. The lack of a Steam release would interrupt a string of first-party candidates debuting on the platform. The prospect of Marvel’s Wolverine arriving on desktops and laptops also looks bleak.

Interest in SharpEmu and KytyPS5 has also grown because Sony will, starting in early 2028, cease printing new titles on discs. Piracy concerns aside, PS5 emulators are a way to preserve games without relying on digital marketplaces.
